So, mermaid, sing to me
Of the better times and the things that could be
And of islands in the Mediterranean Sea
And of eating and sleeping at times when I should
And of washing the drink and the drugs from my blood |

The problem is that the "have me" version is too.. kind. "Fuck me" makes it clear that the guy's attraction to the second woman is based on desire and lust; with "have me" it sounds like it is possible she is actually 'the one' for him. With "have me" the man can be the good guy in the story; "fuck me" carries most of the intent of the song. |

That's my favourite part of the song, if it even can be called a part of the song.
There's a bit where he sings (I think) "Man I had a dream and in it she came true/ And nigga if I did it I think you can too" which is just kind of perfect, like all the various negativity and positivity from the rest of the album suddenly get resolved in this one lovely line. |

If he didn't take a poke at the moon landing, I would have to agree with this song more than any other song ever. |

On the surface you have a point - but every music fan, regardless of location/era, runs into CBGBs eventually. |

| Big Pun – Twinz (feat. fat joe) Lyrics

It's a murder. California penal code section 187 defines the crime of murder, so 'one eight seven' has become common gang/rap slang for it. '187 on a cop' is killing a policeman, naturally.
It's also a reference to.. well, dozens of songs and bands which have variations on the phrase "187 on a [adjective] cop". Given that Snoop Dogg shows up to mime the line in the video for Twinz, I've always assumed they were giving a nod to his "Who Am I (What's My Name)" - "Yeah, and you don't stop.. Mister One Eight Seven on a motherfuckin' cop".
Itself a poke at Ice T's song Cop Killer! You could go for days with the homages/parodies/insults/references in these songs. |

He lost pretty much everything he owned when his house burnt down shortly before the recording of the album this song is on.
Obviously not every reference is specifically to that event, but the general subject matter plus the desperation and longing for his home makes me think it was foremost in his mind when writing. |

| The Beautiful South – You Keep It All In Lyrics

They're both things which people have famously kept quiet about, I think.
I assumed the robbery was the Great Train Robbery, after which none of the gang ate cheese on the others even as most of them were tracked and arrested. The murder in '73 could be Jimmy Hoffa, the US trade union leader whose death/disappearance and the location of his body have been a secret ever since? Although actually I have a feeling Hoffa disappeared a few years later.
The murder could also be Kathleen Feeney, a 14 year old who was shot dead by the IRA in 1973. The IRA at the time denied it and blamed it on the British forces (even going so far as to kill a random British soldier in the area in 'retaliation'), and the British forces denied it as well, since they had nothing to do with it. The IRA only admitted responsibility in 2005, I think, so at the time the song was written it was just the British Army and the IRA both denying they had anything to do with Kathleen Feeney's death - whoever knew the truth was 'keeping it all in'. |

This is about how the world can essentially be turned upside down when a close friend or family member dies (in this case, a father - hence, Son Song). Both Max (Cavalera) and the other person singing (Sean Lennon) lost their fathers to bullets early on. (Graziano Cavalera and John Lennon respectively) |

This is about the death of Max's father, Graziano Cavalera, who did some work for the Mafia, and got killed by some Mafiosa. The lyrics are about Max's (and presumably Igor's) anger at their fathers refusal to let them know who killed him ("code of silence!? who set you up?!). And the pain bit is obvious. |

| AFI – 6 to 8 Lyrics

The "On the way, I saw five hours of sleep" and "What new home will the day bring?" are literal...he gets little sleep, and doesn't know where he'll stay the next day.
The "6 figures enter" bit...counting all the past and present members of AFI, we get 6, if Davey is excluded. This might be him saying he feels he is less important than the instrumentalists.
The "When it all comes down, you just throw the bones" line could mean a coupla things. It could be referring to the Eastern tradition of throwing bones, or sticks, and relying on how they fell to decide things, indicating that in the end (when it all comes down), Davey still believes their success, or the live performances energy, is essentially down to luck, no matter how much preparation or practice they put into it.
It could also be Davey's protest against his fame...the "bones" could be the musicians in the band, the bits which support the body as a whole (AFI), but in "when it all comes down", they are thrown away, forgotten, because everyone concentrates on him. |
