callsign, your pathetic post is a beautiful example of what this song is arguing against. Do you honestly think that men and women can be differentiated into two neat piles where men like sex and women are frigid? just because someone wont sleep with you (who can blame them when you're spouting all this outdated rubbish) doesnt mean that the rest of us girls arent out there having a wonderful time in bed. And please, your 'species dies out' thing - read some evolutionary biology before you try and use it - no such thing as good of the species im afraid - havent you heard were all selfish individuals. id mock you for being a group selectionist, but i fear it might all be slightly over your head. |

i love this song. i can see two interpretations. either that the speaker has been dumped by her boyfriend, and replaced quickly by another woman. the speaker is jealous, especially because the man promised to love her forever. she wants to hurt the man, and childishly hopes that he is suffering when she sleeps with other men. she wont leave the man alone. she feels that his new relationship is tainted, because he has already promised himself to the speaker. the speaker compares the new woman to herself, suggesting that she is still involved in the man's life, whereas really he has moved on. she cant get over him, and she wants to believe that he cant get over her.
my preferred version of events is that the man finished with the speaker because of the other woman. (how quickly i was replaced). initially the speaker found it very hard to deal with, and the first 2 verses reflect this. however, the last verse, she taunts him, that 'im not gonna fade,' and remarks that she hopes 'he can feel it' when shes with other men. this suggests that actually the speaker has moved onto other reltionships, whereas now it is the man who is hung up on her. in this way she has had her revenge for being dumped hastily. the man has realised that he wants her back, but the speaker no longer wants him, because she realises that the things he said didnt mean anything.
im not sure if im expressing myself very well. i love this song, because to me it seems that the woman has won, and whereas initially she seems a bit pathetic, she ends the song as the powerful one. great for when you feel like all men are horrid. whichj interpretation does everyone else go for? |

this song summarises the feeling of hopelessness caused by unrealistic expectations. my parents accidentally put me under a lot of pressure before my exams, and this song summarised exactly how i felt. "why are you crying" is i think perfect. it shows how selfish the adult is being. the best part is the very emotional, "i'll live through you," section. it gives an insight into the seemingly heartless adult voice, showing that their actions are motivated by their own self-doubt. doesnt make it any easier to deal with, when its you that has to meet the impossible goals. love this song. i should imagine it applies to a lot of people. unfortunately |

the line, "destiny protect me from the world" is really clever. it would be easy to claim that nothing you can do is wrong cos its destined to happen, and therefore feel that your actions have no consequences that you are really responsble for. the line implies that this would be wrong, because it would be shielding yourself from real life. |

most of this is based on magazine articles and stuff from newspapers. the man in the crowd with the multicoloured mirrors on his hobnail boots is a reference to a guy that put mirrors on his shoes so that he could look up womens skirts. i agree completely about the sexual innuendo, although i cant really be specific about anything...i love the background bit "bang bang shoot shoot" its making fun of people that shoot animals for sport. |

john lennon's part, the main, "free as a bird, home and dry" bit is an expression of lennons happiness with his relaxed new lifestyle as being a househusband and a father to sean. the bit that paul added "whatever happened to..." is what nails the song for me. its about missing lennon and the special relationship shared by the 'fabfour' during the bealteyears. the song seems really sad, but its kind of ment to be peaceful...happy even. just the whole lennon from beyond the grave thing makes it haunting. |

(this is part of a medley on Abbey Road) the I never give you..... couplets are about getting very close to a relationship with someone where there is a mutual feeling, but never managing to actually take the last step. the carry that weight bit is about having to deal with difficult things that dont go away quickly, but the idea of carrying them...you keep going. abbey road is one of the best albums ever. |

i hate this song. it saddens me, because it captures the bitterness that the ex-beatles felt when they split up, and the (mostly temporary) hatred that they felt towards each other, whereas they had originally been the "fourheaded monster". this song is a thinly veiled attack by john, on paul. the reference to yesterday refers to pauls most famous song. the pretty face thing is rather sadly jealousy, concealed by a taunt, because paul was said to be the best looking beatle (although clearly George was) the dead thing is a reference to the rather brilliant rumour that paul was killed and replaced by a lookalike. jump when your momma tell you is a reference to linda, as paul made sacrifices in his career to be with the woman he loved, as did John, although he fails to see this. as i said this is a horrible song. i am inclined to idolise lennon, but i do find it amazing that he could be so petty, and so unkind to a man that had previously been like his brother. i guess it was just a reaction to the grief he must have felt at the ending of such a powerful relationship. at least they made it up in the end. |

this is surely one long joke. because noone could really be so ignorant to think that madonna wrote this song. her version is a pathetic copy of a truly incredable song, the lyrics of which the rest of us were discussing. i cant believe that you couldnt follow the chain of conversation to realise that scheise was talking TO me not ABOUT me. my name is Lucy in the Sky. if you cant understand the reference your ignorance may drive me to suicide. when i joined this forum i intended to talk about song lyrics, not bicker, but this truly is a shocking series of posts. if ive missed the humour of this please forgive and correct me. i think its kind of more then that. when your stuck in a relationship with someone, and all the meanings gone out of it other then sex, but you dont want to break up because you dont know that being alone would be an improvement. its kind of vulnerable people that get into this situation, those who have been starved for attention, because they dont value themselves enough to see a meaningful alternative as a real possibility |
