The Cure – Cut Here Lyrics 19 years ago
This song was written by Robert about the suicide of friend and Associates singer Billy MacKenzie in 1997. Though in typical Rob Smith fashion, he molded it into a broken love song...just shows you, Cure songs are too deep to be taken at surface value ;)

Cutting Crew – (I Just) Died in Your Arms Lyrics 19 years ago
This is a song about a dude who got involved in a relationship for a quick bit of fun or on the heat of the moment. However, it has gotten deep and he must've told lies about himself and now he has gotten too far in. However, she must be a player of some sort 'cos she has broken hearts before and he is just a name on her list so to speak. That is my quick take.

Marillion – Sugar Mice Lyrics 19 years ago
This is a song Fish wrote while on a off day from touring in US (a Sunday I think). It seems to be about either his father or a father leaving or being forced to leave home or a husband who left home.

Marillion – That Time Of The Night (The Short Straw) Lyrics 19 years ago
Fish's song about his resignation from the band circa 1987. Has a wonderful little guitar opening per Steve Rothery.

Marillion – No One Can Lyrics 19 years ago
This is a song Steve Hogarth wrote for his wife during a tour when he missed her very much.

Marillion – Now She'll Never Know Lyrics 19 years ago
This song is an example of an ultimate divorce/breakup song where the person knows they were wrong and cannot get forgiveness...even though they love the person they wronged SOOO deeply. Steve Hogarth sings it with such passion...amazing and painfully beautiful song with a great little electric guitar bend out of nowhere in the first chorus per Steven Rothery ;)

Marillion – Kayleigh Lyrics 19 years ago
This is the song Fish wrote about his breakup with his girlfriend at the time. His girlfriend's name was Kay Lee so he called the song "Kayleigh" so as not to point fingers at her...clever don't you think, hehe. I wonder how the band members knew instantly the song was about her in particular, hmm...This was also Marillions main hit song next to Lavendar (which was a minor hit).

The Mission – Butterfly On A Wheel Lyrics 19 years ago
This song is about (as I read somewhere a while ago) a affair Simon Hinkler (the guitarist for the Mission at the time) had with Julianne Reagan (lead singer of All About Eve).

The Cure – One More Time Lyrics 19 years ago
This is a song about the loss of innocence and the intense desire to get that innocence back (like the innocence of a child), but one cannot turn back the clock and what is lost is sometimes lost forever in some cases.

The Cure – Just Like Heaven Lyrics 19 years ago
This song is about dreaming of the perfect girl then waking only to realize she never existed at all. That is what this song is about and this is what I have heard it commented on MANY times by various people including the band. Utterly gorgeous song despite how unpopular it may be in some people's minds due to popularity.

U2 – The Unforgettable Fire Lyrics 19 years ago
The band had attended a Hiroshima art exhibit while writing this album (namely giving them inspiration for the title and of possibly the title track). This song is very beautiful, but based on what we know...it is probably about the bombing of Hiroshima. However, it does quite sound like a song about a one night stand or some sort of love affair.

U2 – Kite Lyrics 19 years ago
This song is written so it could take on many a meanings. One could be the loss of a relationship between a man and a women and another could be the end of the band. However, Bono, when playing this live, always said it was for his dad who died. I suppose it is in the end up to the listener.

U2 – Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses Lyrics 19 years ago
This song is on the surface about sexual jealousy. However, Larry made the comment once it is about a clandestine affair one band member had with a fan that turned potentially risky.

Martika – Toy Soldiers Lyrics 19 years ago
This song is about drug addiction, though not so obvious though with some of the lyric choices. Furthermore, what an odd choice for a song theme from a artist who is so similar to a Madonna.

Dream Academy – Waterloo Lyrics 19 years ago
This song is more than likely a song of loss (particularly of love) and the sadness that comes with (nostalgia too). Basically, the singer tells the tale of losing a person he loved and how he remembers the little things. He begins with a general description of the place he is at. Some key words are Northern Line and Waterloo (combined with trains pulling out) here to get the location. Waterloo is the name of a train station in London and the Northern Line is a particular part of that train line. This song is obviously set in London, England. Waterloo has a double meaning though, it also means a great loss or to meet one's match (much like Napolean at his Waterloo). Another double meaning is trains pulling out. When a train pulls out someone is coming or going. In the case of this song...going. The chorus talks of the promises made like running forever (a relationship lasting forever). Obviously with half a return ticket in his pocket, he is unable to return to 'what was.' Also the memories and souvenirs further solidify the fact this song is about loss and remembrance. Also, when he says "I don't hear you" he is further showing that this person is no longer nearby or not around anymore. This is my take on this song. Very beautiful, very haunting.
