Sufjan Stevens – The Only Thing Lyrics
|
Best song on the album in my opinion. For now. I've listened to this album everyday for the last few weeks and my knees buckle and I get shivers everytime. Stunningly beautiful. Only Sufjan is capable of this. Hope and despair and brutal honesty all wrapped up in a delicate song that could well be both a hymn or lullaby. The middle of the song, when it quiets and he shifts up an octave, then sings "I wanna save you from your sorrow." and the little flourish comes in... shivers every single time. Then he doubles up the vocals and instruments for the final verse. Just about perfect. |

Thursday – Sugar in the Sacrament Lyrics

I think they must listen to Pedro the Lion. First time I heard this I thought they were directly ripping from the song Magazine... "Oh my god what I have done"... it's sung in the exact same way too. no complaints... this song is amazing. |

I'm not even a Christian anymore... but doesn't it seem blatantly obvious that he's talking about Jesus/God? Anyone? No? Well whatever... it wouldn't be the first time Chris has made Christian references... like in Dolorosa. |

American Football – The Summer Ends Lyrics
| 18 years ago
|
I swear, this has to be the best album ever. Every break up, every good day, bad day... can be expressed with an American Football song. This and Never Meant... so perfect. This song just started to mean a lot more to me after my summer girl broke up with me. Every word... it feels like this song was written for us. This is our song, Megan. How amazing... Kinsella, you're a genius. |

The Starting Line – Ready Lyrics

chiswell! that is so interesting... this is like discovering the objectin a 3D computer image! I totally didn't hear that line til I strained and hear it at around the 3 minute mark. Max has such a recognizable voice... I heard this song before I knew Max was in it... and as soon as I heard it... it was obviously him... but the yellow cat thing is really strange... and random. but kudos for noticing it... or at least bringin it to my attention. |

Owen – Bed Abuse Lyrics

once again... way too many good things about this song... well, besides the fact that I completely relate to the "and pillows that you can't get used to" line. that's just funny actually... and the "misplacing time like I've got it to lose". classic... and this must be a Mike's signature... the closing... I can't get enough of this wussie crap. so quiet, sad, introspective... emo... whatever! I love it. great song, great lyrics... I wish this song ended the album because I like this song better than the last one. |

Owen – That Tattoo Isn't Funny Anymore Lyrics
| 19 years ago
|
second best song on the album I think. There are so many parts of this song I love. It has such an odd structure and tempo until it breaks into that WONDERFUL long (but not too long) loop for the last half of the song. I love what happens at the song at 2:20 when the backround guitar picking comes in before "it's too close to home...". I love it because it almost gives a preview of the rest of the song. oh... I could go on... I love the fact that he can be repeating the same line over and over again... with simple, but layer instruments... and i doesn't get boring. very much like Goodbye Sky Harbour by JEW. A perfect song... oh man... |

Owen – Who Found Who's Hair In Who's Bed Lyrics

this song brought shivers to me from the moment I heard it. the first beat sounds like a heartbeat.... the guitars are so beautiful. and then when Mike's vocals come in... they scrape off the back of his throat and makes such a sweet sound. he sounds like a such a fragile individual... perfectly complimented by "fucks" here and there. such an amazing way to start an album. |

Motion City Soundtrack – L.G. FUAD Lyrics

|
that's really funny:
"I want to thank you for being a part of my forget-me-nots and marigolds
And all the things that don't get old
Is it legal to do this? I surely don't know"
yes, is it legal to blantantly steal from the Promise Ring? yeah, who knows... TPR stole from various different poets. I love that line and I had to make sure of what I was hearing. I love what he talks about right after about him expressing his thoughts using those type of descriptions. I find myself doing the same thing I'm guilty of losing originally but sounding poetic by subconsciously using lines by TPR, Death Cab, or Owen to describe feelings or situations. Ahhh, whatever. |

strange no one mentioned the obvious shout out to T.S. Eliot's Prufrock with the line... "measuring time in spoons". That's right out of the Love Song... Davey we miss you. This song is wonderful. I makes me want to fall in love. The chorus just drives me nuts. |

Camber – Sever Lyrics

oh man... talk about nostalgia. I did a poetic analysis of this song 4 years back in grade 11. I still feel as passionate about this song as before. This song, is associated with the melodramatic first break-up. It's such a great song. Every band needs one angst ridden emo cry baby song on an album. This is one... and it's a goodie. Oh... back when Camber and Deep Elm were good. |

This song took me about a year to become my favorite on the album... and that says a lot considering how wonderful this whole album is. After a while I would just skip to the last 15 seconds when Lad sings "change your name" and I'm left writhing in my seat from the palpable emotion. Wonderful. |

This Beautiful Mess – Unsuitable For Any Melody But Yours Lyrics
| 21 years ago
|
To listen to This Beautiful Mess, I figure you must either be a Deep Elm fanatic or a Christian who likes good music. I'm both of those. But if there are any other Christians out there, did you not notice how much of a blatent rip off (at least #2 by theses guys) the line "and you serenade me. with the sweetest of songs." is. The song Follow by Delirious has exact same line... and it came out about 4 years ago. I love beautiful mess... but this is weak. |

The Used – Greener With The Scenery Lyrics

This song is so melodic and beautiful it drives me nuts. I love at the end of the first verse how Brett says the word "fair". I also love the loop of the chorus and the backing vocals that sing "change" during the chorus. It sounds so much like Jeremy Enigk of Sunny Day Real Estate it's wonderful. |

Blindside – The Endings Lyrics

This is the best rock song on the cd. It has all the right elements. I don't know what the lyrics mean... most of the lyrics on Silence are pretty undefined and ambiguous. But this song just rocks. I love the background singing from Simon during the chorus. Very nice. |

Blindside – Painting Lyrics
|
This song is very beautiful. Blindside is great at molding chaos with beauty. The melody of the chorus is lovely and the looped lines at the end are amazing. Ever since Nothing But Skin I've realized that Christian has an amazing vocal range. I'm so tempted to call this their "emo" song... but I'm sure the Texas is the Reason and Mineral would turn over in their grave if I did. (I can't help it though...) |

Bad Religion – American Jesus Lyrics
|
Yeah this song chokes me up a bit. No wonder Brett's an athiest. I'm a born-again Christian and I can see why people hate organized religon and Christianity so much. Idiots throw the name of Jesus around so much that people hate it. Look at the friggen Crusades. Countless Jews, Muslims, woman, and children were killed and raped all in the name of Jesus. I don't have much of a comment about the song but if there are any of you who hate Christianity n stuff, go ahead. We are stupid humans. But don't hate Jesus. He's much better than us fickle creatures. |

Bad Religion – No Control Lyrics

I'd half to say that this is the best Bad Religion song. It's in a three way tie with Automatic Man and I want to Conquor the world. Man this guy is smart. He's so articulate that he's almost convinced me to be an atheist... except for the fact that he's dead wrong. But I still love him, and so does God!= |

Element 101 – Standing On The Edge Of Night Lyrics
| 22 years ago
|
Sometimes I get confused when a band with Christians in it are talking about God or boys/girls. Some of the lines (4th line in chorus) sound like they must be for God, but then you hear the bridge and the rest of it. I love this song to death though... but I think Crissie is making this person out to be much more then he should be. Common now. First love, anyone? |

Brandtson – Shannon Said Lyrics

|
I'd have to say, single handedly because of the harmonies and voice layering, that this is the best song on Fallen Star Collection. I'd say it's also the most underestimated song on the album too. I doesn't stand out like the earlier songs. I'm also still amazed that Jared can sing so well while rocking on the drums. |

Brandtson – Nineveh Lyrics
|
Yeah, this is easily the best song off their first album. It rocks and it has wicked lyrics. It's very evident that these guys just came from a Christian hardcore group (Six Feet Deep, RIP). BTW, the references to Ninevah and Jonah are biblical. Read the book of Jonah and you'll get what he's running from. |
