I'm going through a really difficult breakup right now so it seems like every song is about a breakup (specifically mine, of /course/ - the mind does funny things), but I woke up in the middle of the night with the melody stuck in my head and when I found the words I was fairly stunned. In my (current) interpretation, the song is about losing someone as a result of your own ignorance, or unwillingness or inability to change. You don't realize how important the relationship or the person was or what they meant to you until they're gone, and you're suddenly feeling this surge of emotion and love but there's no one there to share it with you. You get all these big ideas about how they might come crawling back to you or how you might go crawling back to them, but they're never going to happen... You try to move on and improve your life ("painting it white") so that you don't end up in the same pitfalls and try to fill your world with distractions ("noise"), but your constant companion is no longer around to share the joy of life with. Every time you're out with friends or doing something you enjoy, they're missing from the picture like someone cut them out of a photograph. Last but not least, now that you're alone, you can't help but yearn for that person physically. You'll go to hell for what your dirty mind is thinking. |

Being a dark angel does not necessarily mean you've been cast out for some wrongdoing or anything like that. In fact, you may walk freely among others, just expect that all the attention they'll pay you is adverse, seeing as by your position you attain a reputation for being a troublemaker and circumventing the 'rules'. In my interpretation, for an angel [although I don't believe in angels - this is all based on my roleplay universe] to become a dark angel, -he- is the one that changes; it is not a decision made by anyone else. The very essence of the angel's soul becomes so consumed by the smog of thought - that piece of imperfect being - ["Doubting angels fall to walk among the living."] that they lose some of their foothold in heaven and are often removed to the corporeal world [NOT, however, as one of the Fallen], not necessarily as a measure of exile, but for their own protection would their ex-brethren see them as threatening. It's like... Les Miserables. Because when an angel loses heaven's light, he can never regain it, or perhaps even when he does, that which made him dark in the first place remains. ["They fall again."
