Dispatch – Prince Of Spades Lyrics 23 years ago
I heard this song for the first time when I bought the live CD set "Gut the Van". Ever since I listened to it the first time I have been listening to it non-stop. I can't go a day without playing this song while driving to school or home from school.

Saves the Day – Freakish Lyrics 24 years ago
This is also one of my most favorite songs by STD. I can't really add anymore to the comments people have already made, I just wanted to say just how good it is. I just love the emotion that is present in this song.

The Goo Goo Dolls – Acoustic #3 Lyrics 24 years ago
I used to know how to play this song on my guitar, but since I haven't played my guitar in ages I forgot. I agree, though, that this song should be longer. It just doesn't seem right how short it is, it makes me sad :(

Incubus – Make Yourself Lyrics 24 years ago
I think that this song is about how the only way to feel good about yourself is to not let other "mold" who you are. Instead you need to take charge and make yourself.

Incubus – Pardon Me Lyrics 24 years ago
I think it is also a song about not being able to deal with the "games" that people play, and welcoming death as the only way to set yourself free. Quality song.

Jimmy Eat World – Bleed American Lyrics 24 years ago
I think that this song is about how much we don't have control over our own lives. How we are so dependent on the T.V. to keep us company, and being happy merely because of a simple little pill. I am sure, however, that there are multiple other meanings for this song.

Jimmy Eat World – Hear You Me Lyrics 24 years ago
"if you were with me tonight
i'd sing to you just one more time
a song for a heart so big god wouldn't let it live"

this verse gets me everytime I listen to this song. It is just so powerful, and sad. I agree with Dorky that this song is about someone who helped them, and they never got a chance to thank them. It's just such a great song.

Dave Matthews Band – Granny Lyrics 24 years ago
From what I have read this song was titled "Granny" even before it was written. I don't know if the title necessarily fits anything but the first verse of the song, but it doesn't matter too much. All in all this is just a great song... However I still can't manage to put my finger on exactly what it is about.

Dave Matthews Band – Grace Is Gone Lyrics 24 years ago
This is such a great song to listen to if you are in one of those depressed, sad moods. It isn't a very "cryptic" song, so it is rather easy to figure out what it means. Just by listening to the chorus you can tell it is about someone breaking your heart, and drinking the pain away.

Dave Matthews Band – Long Black Veil (Lefty Frizzell cover) Lyrics 24 years ago
Was this song originally written by DMB, or is it a cover? I haven't been able to find out.

Dave Matthews Band – The Dreaming Tree Lyrics 24 years ago
Brad Arnold of 3 Doors Down wrote this song in math class when he was 15! So it’s probably not about drugs, growing old, or a complicated relationship with a girlfriend. Brad says:

‘It's not just asking, “If I fall down, will you be there for me?” Because it's easy to be there for someone when they're down. But it's not always easy to be there for somebody when they're doing good. It's asking, “If I'm down, will you still be there for me?” But at the same time … [it’s] kind of asking, “If I'm doing good, will you be there for me? Will you not be jealous of me? That song is so little about Superman.’

A 15 year old guy is worrying about how he fits in with his buddies and about being tight and loyal with his buds. The music video was made in 2000, seven years after the song was written. The video has overly influenced people’s interpretation of the song, but the video doesn’t reflect the original inspiration. Brad said, “Maybe throughout the years of singing that song, I might have come up with more meanings for it than it actually might have originally had.”

I think the song is about worrying that as things change (“the sands of time”), as life goes up and down (“I watched the world float to the dark side of the moon”), will we still be there for each other as friends (“as long as you'll be my friend at the end”)? Adolescent friendships are so intense (“your secrets I will keep,” “if not for me then you'd be dead”), but then when we grow and move on, will we still mean the same thing to each other?

The singer is determined to stay loyal and steadfast (“I'll keep you by my side with my superhuman might”), but he’s worried that his friend might not (“Will you be there holding my hand?”), especially if the singer is more successful than his buddy (“If I’m alive and well”).

The meaning of the “Kryptonite!” refrain has bothered people. The singer’s loyalty and need for his friend makes him vulnerable to being disappointed by his friend. So in a way, his friend could be his Kryptonite: our loved ones have the power to hurt us in ways our enemies never could. Worrying (“my troubled mind “) about his friendship is what has him going “to the dark side” (“I knew it had to be something to do with you”). He realizes that he can’t control what life throws at them (the dark side of the moon is unknown) and that things will always change (“I feel there is nothing I can do”). But even though they may argue or have ups and downs (“You call me strong, you call me weak”), the overall message is uplifting:

“I really don't mind what happens now and then / As long as you'll be my friend at the end.”

Dave Matthews Band – Minarets Lyrics 24 years ago
Just a few thoughts:

- Rihanna didn't write the song, Justin Parker, Mikky Ekko did, so I'm highly doubtful it's about Chris Brown

- Not every song in the world is about drug use, most people in the world are capable of having profound experiences and emotions [both good and bad] without the use of drugs or alcohol.

I think it's about two people struggling with intimacy and the sense of vulnerability that comes from realizing you need the other person as well as how fear can cause you to sabotage something you want so badly. That fear is causing her to distance herself out of an unneeded sense of protecting herself and he's calling her on it, reminding her that she needs to be open to receiving love and living life:

"It's not much of a life you're living
It's not just something you take, it's given"

And she's admitting that even though she's still struggling with the fear:

"Not really sure how to feel about it
Something in the way you move
Makes me feel like I can't live without you
It takes me all the way
I want you to stay"

Her need for him has outweighed that fear of vulnerability"

"Oh the reason I hold on
Oh 'cause I need this hole gone"

Dave Matthews Band – Lie in Our Graves Lyrics 24 years ago
Lie in our Graves is a song about how sometimes we feel regret for something that we were not something we could of been, or do something we could have. I love this song mainly because of the uplifting guitar rift he plays during the chorus.

Dave Matthews Band – Ants Marching Lyrics 24 years ago
A song merely about how each day we all live our lives like ants. We do the same thing everyday without really thinking about why and for whom we are doing it for. no complaints. just doing what we have to do.

Dave Matthews Band – Crash Into Me Lyrics 24 years ago
"Oh I watch you there
through the window
And I stare at you
You wear nothing but you
wear it so well
tied up and twisted
the way I'd like to be
For you, for me, come crash
into me"

You can tell just by this line that he is in fact singing about a teenage boy's fanatasy of a woman behind the glass. I guess we have all felt like this in some way or another.

Dave Matthews Band – Christmas Song Lyrics 24 years ago
This is such a great song. The lyrics of the song fit so well with the title. Since I often fall asleep to music, I usually listen to this song because it is just so... I don't know, "lullabyish" if you know what I mean.

Incubus – Wish You Were Here Lyrics 24 years ago
Doesn't it seem to apply to anyone who aches for someone they deem out of their league? All of the self deprecation and feelings of not being worthy are something to which most of us can relate. Isn't it funny how later we wonder what the hell we were thinking about the person? Emotions, what a ride!
