Nirvana – You Know You're Right Lyrics 21 years ago
KC... you're pathetic. These lyrics are for the live version, as stated. And your theory is fucking stupid. Kurt filed for divorce, he didn't want to be with Courtney (and who could blame him, though why he was with her in the first place still fucks with my mind). Not a bad song, not the best. If not for "you know your right" being repeated so much at the end, it'd be great. Going with my belief that he knew he was gonna die, I think that (the belief) is the reason he sounds less into the song, like he's holding back or scared to sing it.

Metallica – Orion Lyrics 21 years ago
This song is pure brilliance wrapped in music. I love every second of it, even and possibly especially the part when the bass is being bent while a wah(is it wah or just a spacey-effect?)-pedal (that muff one that Cliff used on Anesthesia, I believe) is being used. One of my friends, a "Metallica fan" (you're not a fan if you happily announce that you'll burn anyone St. Anger for 3 bucks and would rather have the mp3s than own the albums) found this part annoying. I'd also like to point out that, solos aside, this is their easiest instrumental of the 3 (not counting Anesthesia since it was a solo) though the most intricate of Metallica's entire catalogue.

Metallica – Harvester Of Sorrow Lyrics 21 years ago
You know what? I think this song is about drugs. Think about it. It mentions shoot in! That's an obvious reference to heroin! And as for the rest, well, I'm not high yet so I can't reach for anything yet. Sorry all, but I just had to post something about drugs because it's the only song I've seen on this site thus far that isn't about them. *Scoff* Please.

Nirvana – Come As You Are Lyrics 21 years ago
Ahem... beliefs of the whole Kurt's death conspiracy (BTW, as obm just said, Courtney hired someone... not necessarily a hitman), the song is most likely about suicide. "His" suicide. A prophetic song, perhaps? Him swearing that he doesn't have a gun... he didn't want one. He got it for protection. That actually just came to me. What I was going to say was that it just talks about how someone lives this rather morose life that they want to change, or would like someone to take them away from it. Well, not even talks so much as that mood is implied by the music and the friend part is encouraged by the lyrics. To further fuel this theory of it being about suicide, listen to "Adam's Song" by Blink 182. It refers to this song, with the lines "I took my time, I hurried up." That song is unquestionably about suicide, and after hearing it, this song gained a similar meaning to me.

Metallica – Until It Sleeps Lyrics 21 years ago
This song was entirely about James' dad, not just his cancer but all the things he did to Het, and all the emotions he's come to terms with ever since he died. He lost both his parents to cancer, unless I've been led astray in my knowledge of Metallica by a trusted source, and wrote songs about both of them. Angry songs, filled with deeper pain. The one about his mom was The God That Failed. This one, not so much about cancer as inspired because of it, is as I said about what his dad did to him when he was younger. The video, on the other hand, is about/inspired by a painting called The Garden of Earthly Delights, which in actuality isn't about Adam and Eve at all. It's a great video, my personal favorite. Oh, and that reminded me... on another post for a different Met song, someone said "But what video of theirs isn't about the lyrics?" I think it was Fuel... well, there's your answer.

Metallica – Fuel Lyrics 21 years ago
Oh, sorry to double post but I found it slightly ironic that this was the song I signed up to post about while using Opera, a browser which has "Reload" instead of "Refresh." You know, Fuel is the first song on ReLoad, this was supposed to be my first post (although actually turning out to be the 4th, I believe), and after signing up, I had to reload to be able to post... oh shut up.

Metallica – Fuel Lyrics 21 years ago
Alright, Jesus Christ. "This song's about drugs." "Oh my god, there's another drug song by drug band Metallica." Metallica's got 2 songs "about" drugs, one of which is only the second part of a double entendre (Master of Puppets, about both governmental control and heroin, or cocaine in some people's eyes) and one of which only refers to drugs (Harvester of Sorrow, "shoot in"). Fuel is about cars, as stated, more precisely muscle cars. Perhaps even inspired by Grand Theft Auto? I think the first one came out in '96, on PC anyway. Burn your face upon the chrome, for example. This can be interpreted further by the original lyrics under the working title "Fuel for Fire", for example "Into the wild I go, no one I face I know." With the exception of my not knowing how either GTA or the London 1969 expansion start, the other 3 start you off in a city that you either aren't familiar with or don't know entirely, and makes you work for people you don't know, killing other people you don't know. Perhaps, and most likely, this is reaching a bit, although I will say it's fitting. Who knows exactly if they were or weren't inspired by the game, I mean... they're gonna have one soon, y'know?

Metallica – Sweet Amber Lyrics 21 years ago
Hm... to me, this song just sounds like a normal relationship played out by, say, two rival spies? Of course, that's just from the first and second lines, and no other line supports this theory. And then again, there could be more... since Metallica likes weaving stories in songs (Unforgiven, Ronnie, The Phantom Lord, Harvester of Sorrow) as well as write songs about stories (For Whom the Bell Tolls, The Thing That Should Not Be, Creeping Death), this could be an example. In the beginning, both are agents or spies. But after a while, the guy and hence the narrator quits "the business" to be with "Amber", although she stays in it. He basically gets screwed over from there. Then again, maybe I've just watched Tarantino films too many times, since my interpretation sounds like something he'd write. Speaking of Tarantino, how many of you knew (or cared to know) that Lars (yes, Metallica's Lars) is producing the soundtrack for his latest, Kill Bill?

Metallica – Fade To Black Lyrics 21 years ago
I only have one thing to say, as the song has been explained thoroughly. I just want to address the fact that this was not Cliff's favorite song; Orion was. The band played that song for him at his funeral. Can you just think of the imagery that combination has (a funeral and a Metal-Instrumental)?

Metallica – (Anesthesia) Pulling Teeth Lyrics 21 years ago
Ahem... I have a few things (people) to address here. First off, Motorbreath: Jason simply played bass on "To Live is to Die", he didn't write it. The entire song is composed of several riffs from many of Cliff's notebooks, which is where the lyrics were found. Secondly, to the idea that Jason was better or even all that good: his bass playing was just enough to fit the track, never much more than a dumbed down single string translation of James' guitar riffs. His best original work was My Friend of Misery, which is more or less the same riff as Anesthesia, the song of which should be discussed (trust me, it's got the same notes in the intro, but Anesthesia's are played faster and run together). While not a technical bass player, i.e. quite able to play the bass but choosing lead guitar as my forte, I still listen in awe every time I hear this song, or anything off Kill, Ride, or Master. For Whom the Bell Tolls is a great example of excellent bass that goes underappreciated; during that part around 1:00 where the guitar starts playing the "dun dun dun dun" (E|3 2 1 0), you can notice the bass playing the same riff... with the E and A strings, hence a bass power chord. Does Flea do that? (Note: Flea's good at what he does, slap bass, but Cliff brought guitar sensibility to the bass.)
