I like the fact that they can make calm/relax-y music without being lazy. Their lyrics and songwriting are an obvious step above most "indie" bands. Clever without being weighty and whatnot.

He and his significant other have been kidnapped and the perpetrators are raping her while he watches. That's what I get from this. I'm sure its really nothing that extreme, but their lyrics are incredibly vivid and Luke seems unafraid to throw very ugly things in the listeners face, which is rather refreshing.

I see these lyrics as spoken from the viewpoint of heroin, trying to coax a user into using it again. Bear with me: The user "gets what he wants", obviously, when using the drug. The heroin, when injected, "floats downstream" though his veins. Dead veins are probably visible under his "translucent skin". "The shape of your eyes", diluted pupils?, "the shade of your eyes", redness of the eyes? Maybe that's exclusive to marijuana, don't quote me. I'm tired.
