It was a long time since i read it, but I'm pretty sure that some of the lines are direct quotes from The Iliad. Worthy reading for anyone with the slightest history/mythology interest. The song really captures her pitiful greed and regretful sorrow. Strong words, by a strong band. |

The club version of this is still one of the most powerful club anthems ever made, imho. |

I cant say im that familiar with their political ideas either, but considering the sarcasm that goes through the whole song I suppose the w.a.s.p part is sarcastic as well. Whats scary is that this song feels more accurate today than ever before considering the blind support shown to The States by the current Brittish government. |

Is it just me, or isnt this song just about what the title says, Sundance Kid. Maybe there is something more read into it, but i feel its just an interpretation of the feelings going through Sundance Kid and Butch Cassidy in the end of the movie. |

Just a sidenote... Wouldnt "closing in on my fifteenth year" actually make her thirteen?
Your fifteenth year is when you are fourteen (like the 18th century is year 1700 to 1799), before turning fifteen and since she is "closing in" means she isnt yet, which would make her thirteen? Wrong?
Still, one of his catchiest tunes ever. |

I feel like many people here fight a futile battle with each other. There is basically two things that can be discussed about each and every song here. 1. What did the songwriter mean with the song and 2. What does the song mean to you. These two should be carefully crossed.
Personally, the suicide lines have many times come to me as well, but still to me the song has always felt like of the two people in the song, one is already dead and the other is dying. In the last verse she passes her last night and is therefore greeted by "someone". If that someone is death, or a past lover is abit beyond me, but being the romantic that i am, i prefer to think of it as the long gone lover who never left her thoughts.
Just my two cents.... |

Get the impression its about a nation, perhaps (and most likely) USA. Some sentences goes way out there, but in general it all fits in. |

I dont think its about the end of the world, rather the end of a relationship (which sometimes can feel like the world though). He is out drinking after breaking up and its getting closer to closing time, which is usually when the sorrows and a realisations kicks in.
One of my all time favourite lines in a song is:
"..the Johnny Walker wisdom running high" |

I think Mule Variations must be one of the easiest of his album to get into, older stuff tends to be more to the more hardmelted side. One album i can recomment more than others is Swordfishtrombones. Mostly cause there are songs that are easy to melt early, but also an album that really grows with you. A golden trophy in my record collection. (though "Whats he building" is probably the most amusing work he has ever done in my opinion). |
