This song is beautiful. It makes me want to fall in love, even if it means dealing with all the pain and heartache. If someone loved me like he loves "his Konstantine", I could deal with all of the bad things that come with love, because it would be enough that I once had something great. About the name.. K is the symbol for a constant in some math. Just a thought. |

One of my favorite songs. Bob Dylan is just amazing. The lyrics are excellent on their own, but his delivery just makes the song. I've heard that he wrote this about Jackie Kennedy, and I can see that in some of the lyrics, but I don't know if he really intended it for her or not. Basically, it's about somebody who used to be in a high position in life and fell dramatically. They never took the time to think about the little people, and now they are one of them. And when they look back, being up there wasn't really the best place to be. |

It breaks my heart everytime I see that pause at the end of this song... and I'm not easily saddened. You're right. I think Kurt chose each and every unplugged song carefully. This one, I think, was aimed at Courtney. I'm in between. I don't know if Kurt killed himself or if he was killed. The evidence is too much for me to disbelieve, but suicide fits. I do think that he knew that he was going to die, one way or another, and that was reflected in his eyes in that brief moment at the end... |

In my opinon, this song can be whatever you make of it. I personally think it has two meanings, literal and figurative. The literal has been discussed enough, so I'll just start with how I see the song figuratively... [Underneath the bridge] 'The bridge' could be the gap between childhood and adulthood, aka teenage years [The tarp has sprung a leak] Kurt never really had a permenant home, so it's kind if like, the roof is leaking on me, it isn't working, these homes aren't working [The animals I've trapped have all become my pets.] This one gives me the most trouble figuring out. Kurt could have been mentioning his friends, the 'animals'. He hung out with the punk rock metalheads, so obviously they weren't the tamest kids in town. [And I'm living off of grass and drippings from the ceiling.] Definetely talking about his teenage drug use. I don't really understand the drippings from the ceiling part. Maybe he means he was living off the pain given to him by his dysfuctional homes, as mentioned above. [It's OK to eat fish, 'cause they don't have any feelings.] Kurt was a Pisces. Pisces is a fish. I see this as a rather sarcastic remark, kind of like, It's ok to hurt me! I don't have any feelings! [Something in the way. Mmm-hmm...] Something in the way is an interesting statement, as it can have so many different meanings when looked at a different way, just like the rest of this song. |
