| The Beatles – Only a Northern Song Lyrics

I read that in this song George Harrison is complaining about British tax laws. Since they were from Northern England, they were considered "northerners". He is complaning that the only thing that matters, negatively, is that he is a northerner. Everything else, such as 'the chords he plays, the words he says' are irrelevant. He is being sarcastic.
A significant amount of the Beatles earnings went to taxes, so I think this is what triggered his feelings of unfairness |

Listen to Temple of the Dog song "Times of Trouble." The music is exactly the same, the lyrics are the only difference. Interesting. Of course, Temple of the Dog included Mike McCready, Stone Gossard, Jeff Ament, and Eddie Vedder. |

Brian Wilson did not write this song. Mike Love did. It was written in the late 80's, some 20 years after their success in the 60's. It still seems to reflect the feel good surf pop that Brian Wilson was trying to move the beach boys away from. |

John Lennon originally wrote the song shortly after he was awarded his green card to stay in the country after many years of problems with the U.S. goverment. I think that was part of the motivation behind his feelings. |

| The Beatles – Lovely Rita Lyrics

This song was based on another article Paul McCartney read in a newspaper. The article talked about a metermaid who was retiring. They called her "Lovely Rita" at one point in the article, since the picture of Rita in the article looked a lot like a man. The rest of the song is made up around the Rita character. |

George Harrison wrote the song about Paul McCartney. The song was written around the time of Let it Be(Get Back sessions). Paul had taken over management of the band by this point and was really steering the band in his direction. This song conveyed Harrison's feeling that Paul McCartney had become very self centered and self gratifying in his behavior. |
