whiteout2, Kirk said that he focused more on vocals than solos on this album. I mean, the guy doesn't need to prove he can solo. Hell, I wish he would have taken more lessons from Satriani, before both of them became famous. BUt I do agree that this album needs a solo or two. I doubt that this album will be the standard for their next few releases. I think they just had rediscover who Metallica was, and kick some ass while doing it. |

When I first heard this song, I was like, whoa, that's not the Metallica I've gotten used to. It definitely not a Kill-Justice Metallica, and it's not quite a Black-ReLoad Metallica, so what is it? Well, to answer that, we look at Garage Inc, easily the heaviest of the albums released in the 90's. For St. Anger, Metallica reinvented themselves again. They went back to a garage band type feel for this album. Some songs sound kinda shaky here and there, but like I've said about their other albums, that is the feel of St. Anger. Raw anger, power and not much producing by Bob makes for one killer album. As for this song, I don't wanna bother with the meaning. Just turn it up and piss the neighbors off. |

Great song off a kick ass album. I love the part when Jaymz is singing "Get the Fuck out of here, etc." sounds like he's on the edge of sanity when he sings it. This song, like the album, will take some time to grow on people, but it is one of the best off the album |

My band played this song my senior year at a football game against our rival school. It was totally unplanned (The Principle thought we were gonna play something slow and soft), and we got into huge trouble, but it was worth it to see the crowd go wild and the other team get really really pissed off. |

Everything one can say about this song has been said. I just wanted to laugh at Slipknot and it's own pathetic sound. They are the only band my brother listens to (which is why my stereo is louder than his) and damn, I can't believe people believe that shit. Metallica's rage is pure, raw and very real. The stuff Jaymz writes is exactly how he feels. Hell, St. Anger is nothing but pure rage and hate. But the reason Metallica will always stand out from the other metal bands is because the reality of their songs. Slipknot, Mudvanye and all the rest can swear, say they're gonna kill you twenty times as they fuck ya and shout as loud as they want into a mike, but that doesn't change the fact that it didn't happen and never will. Sure, it's venting rage, but not the pure rage that Jaymz has always vented. St. Anger, Load and ReLoad are about Jaymz and he rage, with the Black album being a prelude to it. This song is about nightmares, no doubt about it. But I ask, who's nightmare dreamed up this masterpiece? I'll give you a hint: his name starts with a J, and plays ESP Explorers on-stage. |

I agree with everyone who said it has to do with the Bible. Given Jaymz's background, it actually should be obvious that it IS referring to Revelations 6 (Could be wrong on chapter, don't have Bible with me). As for Battery Head and his Mechanix, why listen to Megadeth's version when this one is so much better? Hell, this song proves Metallica's dominance over Megadeth since Dave did write the thing, but Jaymz and Lars made it better. |

Arvil's version sucked. All of Icon sucked until the boys themselves took the stage. I would like to point out that all the solos (especially the hard one in "One") were cleverly skipped over. And no, I doubt it was a time issuse, Arvil's band could have done the Fuel solo, and Bizkit definitly had time to play Sanitariums solos. It saddens me to see we live in an age when professional musicans honoring the most influential band since the damn Beatles can't even play a simple solo like the last one on Sanitarium. (I'll count the intro solo of "One" that Korn did as a solo, because Munky [or was it Head? I don't know they are just clones of each other anyway] seemed to be having a hard time playing it.) |

When I first heard this song, I was like "Uh, James, where are you coming from on this one man" cuz I'd never read H.P. Lovecraft's story. Once I read it, it turned a weird ass heavy song into a kick ass heavy song. I like the S&M version, but cuz the symohony backing it makes it even more sadistic. Plus Jaymz vocal is a bit more insane on S&M |

Battery, metal bassists don't do solos like this anymore, because since '91 (with the exception of Metallica, Maiden, and the other old metal acts that are still around) Metal has been reduced to it's own stereotype: A bunch of high school drop outs who play the same four chords over and over as fast as they can, while the vocalist shouts in the mike. The only difference is there's no solos. In other words, post-Black album, Metal has sucked. There are only a few bassists out there that actually remember that solos are possible on bass, and none of them are really main-stream. People say they don't like load and ReLoad because of the changed sound, but really, they had been brainwashed by the crap that was spewed out by some untalented musicians who claim they could kick 'Tallica's ass in a live show, but never took the challenge when the 'Tallica boys said "bring it on". |

great riffage completes this song perfectly. Compared to the rest of the ...And Justice For All album, this is an easy tune to play, but it works very well. the tight complication heard on the album is stripped down to the loose raw power of the E, F and B flat power chords, making for one ugly and sinful riff that just fills you with headbaning energy. |

Funny how this is not a very popular Maiden song, yet it's one of if not the only to go the #1 on the charts (England chats, mind you). It's also on what many Maiden fans consider the weakest Bruce album, yet that one debuted rather high in england as well. Great song, though. |

I like the "nervous" guitar and bass lines. It goes with the lyrics perfectly in creating the mood for the song. I also want to say that I was reading a magazine and I saw a list of the top 100 guitarists. Zakk Wylde ranked in at #11 or something like that, byt Randy Rhodes was like #17 or something. Now, is it just me or is it very funny that Zakk got famous playing Randy's songs, only adding artifical harmonics to everything, yet Randy still was ranked lower than Zakk....hmmm....... |

Thin Lizzy took and old Irish drinking song and disgraced Irish people everywhere with their version. For many years, the Irish suffered with the knowledge of this burden. Then, one day, a band of gods took the song and transformed it into one of the best drinking songs and hard rocking songs heard on the radio. The Irish where now happy, as they where blessed with the one force that change a shitty song into a headbanging classic: Metallica. And the Irish continue to drink happily to the old tradtional version, but never forget once a party really gets going that it' time to take it up a noch. The end.
P.S. If the Irish didn't drink, they would rule the world!

Muzzy, interesting point. Metallica vs. Pink Floyd vs. Led Zepplin, lyricallty speaking. Hmmm..........I love Pink Floydm don't get me wrong, but 75% of their stuff is getting high, whereas the 25% is the contraversial issues like politics and stuff, so I rule them out. Zepplin is Zepplin and will always rule in their own right, but a lot of their lyrics do tend to not be very deep or meaningful. ( I'm speaking mainly of a few songs by them mind you, you really can't fin any bad Zepplin, just some is better than others.) So i choose Metallica for lyrics simply because everyone song Hetfield is pouring out his heart and soul to take it to a deeper level. They also have a song for everything, something few bands can say. |

| Black Sabbath – War Pigs Lyrics

|
#1 Why the hell are you debating politics on a song meanings board? I understand the song is anti-war and all that, but do we really want to come online to read about a song and see all the stuff we see on CNN? No, I don't think so.
#2 My lone comment on the war: We spent 12 years talking to the Iraqis. How much longer do we need to talk? I would also like to point out the only time they followed a U.N. resolution completley was when they ordered the inspectors to get out.
#3 Division2: Glad to see you know your history. Except you forgot a few things. Like the fact that the "certain german" went into those countries for land reasons and his own personal vendetta. Bush does have his own vedetta, and is doing what his father couldn't do. But he is not going ini there just for the fun of it, he';s going in the get rid of a man who if he were in power in the 30's and 40's he would have been your german's friend. Also, the germans didn't spend 12 years talking to each of those nations. They armed in like a year and jsut invaded. The germans also didn't have 45 countires backing them, they had one at the time of the mentioned above invasions, except for Poland when the Russians got involved for the germans.
#3 Last political thing, I promise. America traded Patriotism for Politics after WW1. WW2 was fought for patriotism thanks to Pearl Harbor, but most of the decisions made where politicaly motivated. (i.e. the rush the Berlin so the Russins wouldn't get there first) For the longest time, Partiotism in this country was all but dead after WW2. But on 9/11, we had a resurge of it. Then it died under the weight of the politics that surround us everyday. Just remember one thing: If this war started the week after 9/11, no one would even think of not supporting it. (One last thing, isn't it funny that eventhough they don't support military action, Russia Germany and France all want to be in the rebuilding stage of Iraq, but they have their own crumbling empires to worry about...)
#4 War Pigs is one if not the best anti-war song, too bad many people stop it after the third or fourth verse billing it as satanic |

I agree with songmeaningsuser, but my own personal view whenever I hear this song is individuals fighting against conformity and oppression. We are all pressured to follow the "social norms," and to punish those who break this mold. To me, this just talks about what happens to those who give up the fight to preserve indiviuality (i.e. become Children of the Grave) That's my own personal veiw as to the meaning, I'm sure there is an offical meaning that someone will post later, but this is one of my fav Sabbath songs no matter what it means. |

One thing I would like to add; If you play guitar and you learn this song (which everyone should), please learn the whole thing and not just the main riff. I work at a music store, and it pisses everyone who works there off when some punk kid just plays the riff to any Sabbath song and not the rest. If you want to pay homage to the godfathers of metal, learn at least more than the popular part. |

For all those who said Metallica sold out, to quote Jason:
"Yes, we sell out. Every night of every concert of every tour." or something close that, can't remember. But the point is, they didn't sell out. Also, staleph1sh, Jaymz just turned 39 recently, so they ain't old. (unlike the Rolling Stones who are now older than most stones.) As for mellowing out, they will never mellow out. Just cuz they don't play a thousand miles a minute through every song they right anymore doesn't mean their getting soft. The loose and raw power on Load and ReLoad is still a bit ahead of the time kinda like this song. One is and will always be one of the best damn song ever written by anybody. |

"Blood for face, sweat for dirt,
XXX's for the stone,
To break tis curse a rituals due
I believe I'm not alone
Shell of shotgun
Pint of gin
Numb us up to shield the pins"
This part reminds me of when his mom became and alchoholic to hide the pain. Finally, he called someone for help, and the shell of shotgun thing just reminds me of cops pulling up to his house. This is a great song, and just shows how deep Jaymz really is. |
