Stray Italian greyhounds have ridiculous amounts of silly, happy energy. Quite at odds with her expectations of dismal gloom. Listen to the strings and tell me you can't see a tiny little rapid dog running down a busy street full of tired people and making them all laugh with surprise and delight...and maybe just a little rueful exasperation (C'mon, you mean, I have to be all happy and energetic now? I hate this song. I USED to love it. Until I realized what it meant... There is NOTHING wrong with discovering 'pissed of poets" and "womens groups". I hate how men get frustrated with women dealing with violence, I hate how people get exasperated and impatient ...do you have any idea how I've heard these lines before? "Howcome you don't come out drinking with us anymore? You really should, it's time to let this go" and it's bullshit. This is a CRAPPY song written by a guy/band who does NOT understand what it is to be violated, and then need to deal with it on your own time. Third Eye Blind lost a fan in this song. |

I want to know how most of you missed the incredibly obvious symbolism in the music video. Ok, bird in a cage, Shawn defiantly cutting off her wedding dress, Shawn swinging on the birds perch a second later, burning a house of matches down with a little smile, rejoicing with her arms up at the end of the video. "get the kids and bring a sweater" take the kids with The "list of names" are a list of people who can help after she flees the abusive husband. And she's been "hypnotized" by the abusive" husband. It's an oddly beautiful song. |

Holy CRAP some of you are FAR too critical. This is a hell of alot better than most of the inane shit you'll hear when you turn on the radio, or pick up most of the CDs that are selling themselves in DROVES off the shelves. This is a catchy, clever, amusing little song, not *everything* has to be so mind-blowingly deep that you have to sit down for a moment to reflect upon the complexities. And let's suppose for a moment that it WAS one of RK's weaker songs...SOMETHING has to be the weakest! Just be glad that they didn't start selling out and writing for the average 15 year old paris carbon-copies. Don't be so pompous you disconnect. |

Tori amos has had a crush on Jesus since she was a little girl, and use to masturbate thinking about him. Yep. She admits it. Really. Totally. My favorite thing is how this is one single story line, not 3 examples of outward doormats with inner strength. It's the justified betrayal of this CEO, this man who takes repeated advantage of his accountant and his wife, and when the moment is right and his gaurd is fully down, and they can no longer stand it... There it is. They've gone behind his back, his walking on them is over, and they've got the upper hand they've deserved all along. The genuis is in the rhyme scheme. Intra-verse rhyme...Vienna is a smart poet. She doesn;t take many chances where her MUSIC is concerned, it's always very pretty...but you don't often find a songwriter who writes wongs that also work on a poetic level.
