Is no one else thinking what I do? This is a song about a guy who shot his girlfriend (it’s “bullet in her eye” not “boy”… he took her out for a ride and now she’s up in the sky. I fear that there’s more than just “a little bit of heaven” underneath that apple tree. The turtles were known for making sarcastic songs, and making parodies of themselves, and this is right up their alley. And it’s funny. In an awful sort of way, of course. |
