System of a Down – Sugar Lyrics 9 months ago
"Sugar" criticizes society’s blind conformity, where people follow trends, believe everything they hear, and act without questioning.
"I'm not there all the time, you know..." Society labels those who think differently as insane, while the majority blindly follows established norms.
"I play Russian roulette everyday..." Life is a gamble where people make impulsive choices without considering the consequences, simply because they are conditioned to do so.
"You know that every time I try to go..." The illusion of free will: people believe they are making unique choices, but in reality, they are just following predetermined paths.
"I got a gun the other day from Sako..." Blind consumerism: people buy things not because they need them, but because society dictates trends, even if they are harmful.
"My girl, you know, she lashes out at me sometimes..." A critique of normalized violence, where people accept toxic behaviors simply because they are common.
"People are always chasing me down..." The media and society attempt to strip people of independent thought, bombarding them with manipulative narratives.
"The Kombucha mushroom people..." A symbol of trend-followers who mindlessly adopt ideas, beliefs, and fads without critical thinking.
"Let your mother pray" suggests the passive attitude of relying on faith instead of taking action.
"I sit, in my desolate room..." The anger and isolation of realizing the absurdity of society’s blind conformity.
"How do I feel? What do I say?..." A scream of frustration: nothing really matters because ignorance continues to dominate the world.

System of a Down – Aerials Lyrics 9 months ago
Aerials symbolizes the cycle of life, where we start the same, seek individuality, but ultimately conform to social pressures and return to a similar state.

"Life is a waterfall..." represents life’s inevitable flow—though we experience change, we end up back where we started.
"We drink from the river, then put up our walls." suggests that while we absorb knowledge early on, we later build emotional and societal barriers.
"Swimming through the void..." reflects the search for meaning; we follow ideas, lose ourselves, but do we truly find anything?
"We are the ones that want to play..." highlights human restlessness—we crave change but avoid long-term commitments.
"We are the ones that want to choose..." shows our desire for freedom but fear of failure, leading to safer, conformist choices.
"Aerials, in the sky..." suggests that true freedom comes from breaking free of limiting beliefs and societal conditioning.
In the end, the song portrays how we struggle against conformity but often succumb—unless we expand our perspective and truly free ourselves.

System of a Down – Needles Lyrics 9 months ago
The song can be interpreted as a critique of media control over society, portraying it as a parasitic force that manipulates people’s thoughts and perceptions.
The lyrics describe the media as a subtle yet powerful influence, feeding on tragedy and fear to capture attention. It whispers misinformation and sensationalism while presenting itself as something majestic and alluring.
The "tapeworm" symbolizes the media’s control, dictating what people should do and where they should go, much like how the media shapes public opinion and consumer behavior.
The individual in the song feels drained and unable to grow until the media has taken everything from them, showing how constant exposure to news and entertainment can sap personal autonomy and independent thought.
"Sitting in my room with a needle in my hand" does not refer to drug use, but to a remote control, illustrating passive consumption of media, waiting for the next tragic news (a tomb) to unfold.
The song suggests that true freedom can only be achieved by removing the "tapeworm"—breaking free from media influence and reclaiming control over one’s own mind.

System of a Down – Toxicity Lyrics 9 months ago
This song can be interpreted as a critique of organized religion and its influence on society.
"Conversion, software version 7.0" suggests religious indoctrination, where doctrines are updated like software but remain fundamentally controlling.
"Looking at life through the eyes of a tire hub" symbolizes a narrow, dogmatic worldview imposed by religion.
"Eating seeds as a pastime activity" references the Parable of the Sower (Luke 8:11-18), implying blind acceptance of religious teachings without critical thought.
"More wood for the fires, loud neighbors" alludes to religious persecution, such as the Inquisition, where faith was used to judge and condemn others.
"Flashlight reveries caught in the headlights of a truck" represents individuals trying to seek truth but being overwhelmed by religious dogma.
"You, what do you own the world? How do you own disorder?" criticizes how religious institutions claim to bring order while actually thriving on fear and chaos.
"Between the sacred silence and sleep" suggests a state of submission and ignorance, where questioning faith is discouraged, and believers remain passive.
"When I became the sun, I shone life into the man's hearts" represents religious figures who claim to enlighten people but actually reinforce control over their faith and lives.
Toxicity portrays religion as a system that limits perception, judges others, and keeps people in a cycle of obedience and blindness. It highlights how faith is often manipulated to maintain power and suppress individual thought.

Radiohead – Weird Fishes/Arpeggi Lyrics 1 year ago
My interpretation follows the premise of viewing the "eyes" as symbols of temptation towards death (since fishes of abyss have glowing eyes to lure the victims). The song explore themes of existential struggle, mortality, and the search for release from suffering.

"In the deepest ocean...
A deep metaphorical ocean, representing a state of despair or hopelessness. The "eyes" symbolize the allure of death or oblivion. The questions "Why should I stay here?" reflect the internal conflict between the desire to continue living on the darkness or die

" I'd be crazy not to follow
...
Is my chance"
Resisting the pull towards death is hard, so he follows the path indicated by the mysterious "eyes." The phrase "Turn me into phantoms" reinforces the idea of being led to death. The eyes turn (hypnotize , just like a abyss's fish) , and "turn" (transform).

"I get eaten by the worms
..
Weird fishes"

The chorus paints a vivid picture of decay, with the narrator's body being consumed by worms and "weird fishes" after death.

"Yeah,
Hit the bottom and escape
Escape"
Instead of succumbing to darkness, the narrator finds a way to escape, he committed suicide.

Breaking Benjamin – Breath Lyrics 1 year ago
The lyrics describes the tumultuous nature of a relationship with a borderline person. The struggle to navigate the ups and downs and the feelings associated. Trust me, i know very well.

Verse 1:
"I see nothing in your eyes
And the more I see the less I like
Is it over yet?
In my head"
In this verse, the singer expresses a sense of emptiness or a lack of emotional connection. The growing dislike could be a reaction to the unpredictable nature of someone with borderline traits. The repeated question "Is it over yet?" indicates a longing for resolution or stability . The phrase "In my head" might hint at internal turmoil, confusion, or attempts to make sense of the relationship dynamics.

Verse 2:
"I know nothing of your kind
And I won't reveal your evil mind
Is it over yet?
I can't win"
The decision not to reveal the partner's "evil mind" implies a recognition of destructive or harmful behavior associated with borderline traits. A fear maybe? or just an agreement to the threats. The statement "I can't win" suggests a feeling of powerlessness, as attempts to navigate the relationship seem futile.

Verse 3:
"This will be all over soon (this will be all over soon)
Pour the salt into the open wound
Is it over yet?
Let me in"
This verse reflects a borderline crisis.
The anticipation of the crisis's end is expressed with "This will be all over soon." The metaphor of pouring salt into an open wound signifies resisting the pain during a aggressive behavior, doing nothing , just giving himself to the madness. The plea "Let me in" suggests a desire for emotional intimacy or understanding even in the midst of the crisis. But is useless!

Pre-Chorus:
"So sacrifice yourself and let me have what's left
I know that I can find the fire in your eyes
I'm going all the way, get away, please"

The plea to "sacrifice yourself" might imply a willingness to endure challenges in the relationship for the sake of what remains. The desire to find "the fire in your eyes" hints at a longing for passion or emotional intensity during the periods when the borderline person is not in a crisis. "Get away" Is actually "get of the way". She must let him find inside her the fire!

Chorus:
"You take the breath right out of me
You left a hole where my heart should be
You got to fight just to make it through
'Cause I will be the death of you"

The chorus emphasizes the profound impact of the relationship, describing how the partner figuratively takes the singer's breath away and leaves an emotional void ("hole where my heart should be"). The need to fight to make it through suggests the challenging nature of the relationship. The acknowledgment that "I will be the death of you" may allude to the emotional toll and potential self-destructive tendencies common in individuals with borderline traits.

Bridge:
"I'm waiting
I'm praying
Realize, start hating"
The bridge reflects a state of anticipation ("I'm waiting") and a sense for desperation ("I'm praying"). The call to "Realize, start hating" encapsulates a complex emotional journey, with the realization possibly referring to acknowledging the reality of the relationship dynamics. Starting to hate might be a reaction to the difficulties faced and a manifestation of frustration or resentment.

Grimes – Oblivion Lyrics 2 years ago
This song screams "Dominate me!" . Its about submissive girl who want a dominant partner!

"I never walk about, after dark, It's my point of view, Someone could break your neck, Coming up behind you always coming and you'd never have a clue"
someone coming up behind means a desire for a dominant figure to take control unexpectedly.

"And now they look behind, all the time, I will wait forever, always looking straight, Thinking, counting, all the hours you wait"
The shift to the third person ("they") means that are more than one person waiting for a chance to dominate her, while she is eagerly anticipating their arrival.

"See you on a dark night"
This line continues to convey a longing for encounters with a dominant partner during nighttime, reinforcing the desire for a specific kind of intimate experience.

"And now another clue, I would ask, If you could help me out, It's hard to understand,
Cause when you're really by yourself, It's hard to find someone to hold your hand"
The mention of asking for help and expressing difficulty in understanding could imply a submissive plea for guidance and support from a dominant figure, that can take charge and provide comfort.

"And now it's gonna be, tough on me, But I will wait forever,
"I need someone now to look into my eyes and tell me, Girl you know you gotta watch your health"
The acknowledgment that it's going to be tough suggests a recognition of the challenges that may come with a submissive role, but the commitment to waiting forever reinforces the dedication to finding the right dominant partner, a care giver !

Gracie Abrams – And She Will Miss You Lyrics 2 years ago
The song portrays a mother's deep concern for her child who is struggling with self-destructive behavior, potentially involving addiction or recklessness. The mother's voice in the lyrics reveals a mixture of emotions.
She's seen her child's face a hundred times and recognizes their belongings ("I saw your shoes behind the line"). However, she acknowledges that her child's true self seems distant and concealed, existing "only in my mind."
The song describes a situation where the mother and others are anxiously waiting for news about the child, and the situation is so tense that "breathing was impossible to do."
The chorus repeatedly pleads with the child not to "float too high" or "the Sun will burn your wings." From the mother's perspective, this is a metaphorical way of expressing her worry that her child's actions are endangering their life.
The mother implores her child to "just run away," possibly suggesting that escaping from the harmful environment and influences is the best way for her child to find a way out of their troubles. The reference to the "headlights they will catch you" might signify the consequences that could follow if the child continues down the same path, probably been arrested.

Avenged Sevenfold – Afterlife Lyrics 2 years ago
No matter what the bands says, music have different meanings for each one, and they know. For me its about love and sacrifice. The "afterlife" represents a passionate and fulfilling love that the person has experienced, but ultimately he decide to leave it behind to fulfill their responsibilities and commitments. It highlights the struggle between pursuing personal desires and fulfilling obligations to loved ones, emphasizing the complexities of decision-making and the sacrifices people may make in their lives.
-------------------------
'Like walking into a dream, so unlike what you've see.....
...Of your afterlife here so stay, you'll be back here soon anyway"
the man describes the feeling of being in love as akin to "walking into a dream" and something unlike anything he's ever experienced. He feels uncertain but drawn to this intense love because he's been waiting for it. It's a taste of an "afterlife," symbolizing a passionate and fulfilling love he never expected to encounter.
"I see a distant light, but girl this can't be right...
...I've come to grips with life and realize this is going too far"
The man he questions whether this intense love is right for him, as it may conflict with his obligations to his old family. He realizes that he might have entered into this love too soon. The old family could be his ex-wife with a couple of kids, or his parents.
Then he realizes it's going "too far" from the life he should be leading.

"This peace on earth's not right (with my back against the wall) ...
...Please understand I have to leave and carry on my own life"
He acknowledges that in this love, there is no pain or sense of time, but he also feels that the time is not right to fully embrace this new love.
The man asks for understanding and compassion from the person he loves.

"I don't belong here, I gotta move on dear escape from this afterlife ...
...Take me back inside when the time is right"
The chorus reflects the man's inner struggle. He knows he needs to move on from this intense love because he's made a decision to return to his old family. The "afterlife" of love is not where he belongs, and he feels the weight of his responsibility. But he may go back to her in a future , "when the time is right" .

"Loved ones back home all crying 'cause they're already missing me...
...But you gotta let go of me (I need another chance to live) "
The bridge introduces the idea of loved ones back home who are already missing him. The man prays for a chance to be the person he wants to be, suggesting that he fight now another struggle inside him. The true love now is so far away. But this is a story for another song !!

Avenged Sevenfold – Buried Alive Lyrics 2 years ago
This song sure is about an abusive relationship.
The first part of the song can be seen as Person A's attempt to communicate his concerns about the troubling behavior he noticed in Person B (the abusive one). He tries to fix the relationship, as well as Person B, but he did not succeed.
The chorus describe the abusive situation that person A has to endure: control, threat and abuse.
Then, the second part of the song portrays Person A's breaking out of the control of Person B, putting her in the place she deserve. I will detail bellow my interpretation.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Take the time ...
Try and see it all"
Person A wants Person B to gain some perspective and try to see the bigger picture, perhaps hoping that Person B will realize the harm that she is causing.
"Chances are that you might find...
... Tell me only if it's real"
The relationship is not doing good for both of them. Person A is expressing their sense of walking on eggshells in the relationship, fearing -the consequences of speaking up.
"Still, I'm on my way
Vacant hope to take"
"vacant hope" Person A' hope for change has become empty.
"I walked the fields through the fire....
...Couldn't survive the fall"
Person A endured difficulties in the relationship, tried to makes things better, but ultimately couldn't withstand the pressure.
"Much has changed since the last time...
...Tell me only if it's real"
Person A realizes that he made a bad decision , and now feel less certain about the future.
"Memories seem to fade
Wash my view away"
Its time to forget and be forgotten.
Chorus:
"Hey, I can't live in here for another day
Darkness has kept the light concealed"
Person A is expressing his desperation. The "darkness" symbolizes the abusive nature of the relationship, which hides the light or hope.
"Grim as ever
Hold on to faith as I dig another grave"
Person B is very grim.
Person A is holding onto hope that he can escape its destructive cycle, On the other hand, the are also preparing himself for further suffering and pain, symbolized by "digging another grave."
'Meanwhile, the mice endure the wheel"
This depicts a sense of powerlessness and being trapped in a never-ending cycle of abuse.
"And I'm chained like a slave
Trapped in the dark
Slammed all the locks
Death calls my name
And it seems I've been buried alive"
Person A feels chained and oppressed, making him feel as if they're slowly losing himself. Buried alive here is a strong metaphor. You are trapped, suffocated, cant see anything, alone, slowing dying. This relationship must end.

====Part 2===== Person A finally put person B on the place she deserve (that bitch).
"Take you down now...
...Get your fucking hands off me"
Person A seems to reach a breaking point. The aggressive tone suggests a shift in the power dynamic, with Person A determined to break free from the abuse.

"What's it feel like?...
...Now you're knockin' at the wrong gate"
This implies that Person B's actions have led to the deterioration of the relationship, and now she sill see it fall apart.

"For you to pay the toll ...
...I'll gladly take your soul"
Person A asserts themselves further, demanding that Person B face the consequences of their actions. The soul is the price. Person A will make person B suffer.

"While it seems sick...
...Crushing you with hands of fate"
He is determined to confront Person B, feeling as though he hold the power to determine her fate, even if this means apply a sick an crazy behavior.
"Shame to find out when it's too late
But you're all the same Trapped inside, inferno awaits"
Person A reflects on the regret and sorrow that Person B will likely experience when they finally realize the consequences of their actions but it's too late to change the course of events.

"Evil thoughts can hide I'll help release the mind
I'll peel away the skin Release the dark within"
Person A is acknowledging their own inner turmoil and darkness and expressing a desire to confront and release it.
The lines "Evil thoughts can hide" and "Release the dark within" suggest a personal struggle within Person A that now will be free.

"This is now your life (what's it feel like?)
Strike you from the light (let me take in your soul)
This is now your life (what's it feel like?)
Die buried alive (let me take in your soul)
This is now your life
Die buried alive"

Here, Person A emphasizes the irreversible nature of the situation and repeats the idea that Person B is now condemned to a life filled with darkness and isolation. The relationship is now over and person A is a different person. He turns the table, leaving person B on suffering. He will never be abused again.

A student of mine gave me this song and now i can't take her out of my head.

Foo Fighters – My Hero Lyrics 2 years ago
I like to see this song as a ironic interpretation of a hero. A failed hero !
"Too alarmin' now to talk about
Take your pictures down and shake it out"
can be interpreted as an instruction for the person to remove any image or representation of themselves that portrays them as a hero and to face the reality of their actions.
"There goes my hero" is used ironically to describe the person as a hero, while the phrase "He's ordinary" contradicts this idealized image
"Don't the best of them bleed it out
While the rest of them peter out?"
The irony here lies in the idea that even the best heroes have their tough moments, which contradicts the perfect image expected of a hero.
"Kudos, my hero
Leavin' all the mess
You know my hero
The one that's on"
The irony here lies in the idea that "the Hero", is a useless as it sounds. Like "Great , now i have to clean your mess".
