| @[RBLIL:47648] You’re SO right – I think that everyone goes through a transition of change in their life, and by the way Katy Perry and Kesha don’t…? Ykw nvm. Ppl don’t understand she is right to be angry for this – sabotage is cruel, and maybe just for one music video she didn’t have to be that “cute county girl” any more but that’s fine! She’s grown to be successful and talented, just like @[traumermusing:47649] said, and I just think some ppl can’t handle it. Growth is inevitable, and, c’mon, we kinda just have to deal with it, you know? | |

This song has been a smash hit, but I don’t think anyone has realised that sadness that it possesses. “Answer the phone: Harry, you’re no good alone Why are you sitting at home on the floor? What kind of pills are you on?” It is unclear whether this interpretation is real or not, but it sounds like the ex-wife/girlfriend. I don’t really think that he is on pills, but he’s sitting on the floor because of his grief however the ex can’t understand that’s what it is and assumes it’s weird pills. After that, it goes: “Ringing the bell And nobody is coming to help” I’m not sure what this means entirely, but I’m assuming he needs help with his emotions and “ringing the bell” is asking, maybe, for a therapist but nobody is going to accept him, and help him. He then turns to his long-lost kids: “Your daddy lives by himself He just wants to know that you’re well” This bits really sad: because of his ex and kids going, he’s now living by himself, without family, friends or anyone to support him. We can tell that this is his kids, because he’s calling himself “daddy” while using third person. “He just wants to know that you’re well” – still speaking to his kids. It sounds like he is unable to come round and visit him, and he can’t visit them. He manages to do it on the phone, and he’s just concerned of their wellbeing, reminding them that they do have a second parent. Back to the first verse: “Seems you cannot be replaced” – he is talking about his ex, again. He can’t find a new partner to raise a family with because he can’t get over the grief that he is feeling of losing everything. Now the chorus: “You know it’s not the same as it was” “As it was” could be referring to his family and saying it’s not like it’s used to be – when he was in contact with his kids, when his wife and him were in a stable connection. Another point: “In this world it’s just us” or that’s how he feels. In his mind they are the only important people in his life right now but they are separated thus he is lonely and now it’s just him against the world. Here comes the bridge: “Leave America, two kids follow her” – the divorce. Why else would he talk about two kids following someone if it wasn’t a break up? Especially since it’s a her, we can deduce that it is in fact him talking about her and his kids leaving America just to get away from him. Finally, the very first bit of the song: “Come on Harry, we wanna say good night to you!” These are kids speaking, and because of what we deduced probably his kids. He finally gets to come round but they don’t see him as his dad anymore. Notice how they call him “Harry” and not “Dad”. This is emotional, because he was spending time with his kids again – just what he always wanted! But they don’t think of him the same way, and it has broken his heart because he lost his connection with some of the most important people in the world to him. “In this world, it’s just us. You know it’s not the same as it was!” His kids, his family still has that little connection but it’s just not the same. He ended up losing everything. |
