The lyrics are not quite perfect. And I’m wondering about one of the allegories he used... Have loved this song since I first heard it in the ‘70s. Loved the man & his music all of my adolescent & adult life. Bless his delightful spirit, smoking a cigarette nine miles long somewhere, maybe at the Savior's Feast. I would suggest to add “Well" at the very beginning. That’s how he sang it & to fill in the beat, you need the well. Also, I’m wondering about “the air's as still as the throttle on a funeral train." I think it may be "funnel of" instead of "throttle on." It makes more sense to me, since the throttle on a train isn’t still but the funnel is generally silent, passing through the station without a sound. To me it sounds like what he sings, but I could be wrong. |
