Metallica – Master of Puppets Lyrics 21 years ago
OK, first of, "oldschoolpunker," why don't you cut the crap and take your negative comments elsewhere. Second, metallica themselves have never done drugs, or have never done it to the point of addiction. To quote them from Behind the Music, they never wanted to get high, they just wanted to get drunk. They've always been ones to tackle social issues, and drugs is without a doubt one of them. Here are a few other topics they've sung about that they themselves have not personally experienced: Nuclear War, Death Penalty, War, Corruption of Government, blah blah blah. Basically, you dont have to do drugs to sing about them. Oh, and another thing....lets see....old school punk bands...lets say the Sex Pistols? Johnny Rotten, their lead singer...what did he die of? HERION OVERDOSE! So i guess he was a poser, huh? Then the Beatles would be posers too, huh?, since pretty much all of Seargent Peppers was made while they were doing drugs, as well as a lot of their other albums. I am in no way supporting drugs.....but with your close mindedness, and "FUCKING" metallica becuase you think they do drugs, well, then we'd have to fuck quite a lot of artists, now wouldn't we?

KoЯn – Freak on a Leash Lyrics 21 years ago
OK, I have only been on songmeanings for 2 days and I am already disgusted with all the people who abuse this site. No offense to all the people who are here to comment on songs, which is most of you, but to people like Duke and everyone else who simply come on to bash others for the music they like and other pointless things, well, find a better way to spend your pathetic life, as it seems you have nothing better to do. First off, I am an Honors Student, and am shortly going to be starting my senior year, during which I will be taking 3 Honors Courses and an AP Course. I also have been in Boy Scouts for 6 years and am currently working on my project for Eagle Scout. I am also an active member of my church, as well as being in Drama Club, Pop Group, and Chorale, with whom I performed at the WHITE HOUSE WITH! (sorry people I'm not bragging here, just making a point). Now, Duke and all you other bashers who obviously have nothing better to do with your lives, do I sound like a Satan-worshipper who rapes little boys? As well as listening to Korn, I also enjoy Black Sabbath, some Marylin Manson, Nine Inch Nails, and Alice Cooper. For me, Korn is one of the few bands around today that actually has real emotion to their music, and Freak On A Leash, along with Need To, is the best example of that. While it seems that Jon wrote this about the music industry stripping him of his artistic rights, I see it more as just a loss of ones own personal being, the cruelty of others and of the world in general being the "something" that "takes a part of me." Always trying to find an outlet for this pain, and never being able to, with it all built up inside. For me, this is one of my absolute favorite songs, it really has been the perfect outlet for my anger in almost any situation. I've read on numerous occasions that 10% of Korn fans say that their music has helped save them from suicide, much like Nirvana. Just because a groups music sounds dark or negative doesnt mean they are like that as a person, and really, if the only music out there was bright, happy music, we would just be forcing ignorance upon ourselves. Duke and all the other bashers need to open their minds up a little bit, either that or get off of the computer and get a job, or find some other way to contribute to society.

Eels – Last Stop: This Town Lyrics 21 years ago
I can understand how this was E's way of letting out his emotions on his sisters' death...I have never experienced a death of someone that close, and cannot relate in that way, though. My own personal interpretation is that this song is about someone who leaves your life, whether through death, moving or some other fashion, and sadly, for other people things just seem to go on the same without them, as though they made no difference. For me however, my world would be turning a bit more slowly, and if it was someone as close as a select few of my best friends, it would be hard for me to go on without them as usual. I can relate to this very well right now, my girlfriend (as most people would call her, we personally dont like the label) recently moved to South Carolina, and while we are staying together, its been difficult getting along without her. And, although it doesn't have to do with this song, I really wish I could look at the postings for one song and have them not be people arguing over stupid stuff. And yes, I do have to agree with Deckard on this, the box I am typing in now says "What does this song mean to you?", not "what was the artist thinking when they wrote this song?"

Green Day – 2,000 Light Years Away Lyrics 21 years ago
I've always loved this song, and it's always managed to end up mirroring my relationships. Freshman year, a girl and I started talking, her name was Beatrice Samudio, unfortunately, she had to move to Texas soon after. She was the first girl I had ever liked in that way, and we kept in touch for a looong time afterwards, through letters, phone, etc. Sadly, though, we've lost contact, her phone number has changed and I am not getting any replies to my letters. It ticks me off, too, b/c if she really did care about me then she would contact me, but anyway....back to the song, haha. I can relate to it even more now, b/c the girl I am currently with, Stacy, also had to move, for really serious personal reasons I am not at liberty to share. She's in South Carolina now, I am in Pennsylvania, not quite 2000 light years away, but close enough. It really doesn't matter though, b/c we are as close as we are. We really care about each other, and it was more or less assumed that we were staying together regardless of the distance between us. Billie Joe is one of my musical idols (the only one surpassing him being Kurt Cobain), and I am hoping that his love life continues to mirror mine as it is so far. :-)

Metallica – Master of Puppets Lyrics 21 years ago
First off, the one lyric on this page is wrong. When James shouts before the guitar solo, he says "FACE ME," not "fix me." Second, no offense to anyone, but why argue over whether or not it is specifically about a herione or a cocaine addiction? Really, people. For me, the song isn't even about drugs or a drug addict. Yes, that is what it is saying on the surface, but for me it is saying that we are all being pulled by the strings of fate (or being toyed around with by god), with absolutely no power over ourselves. As humans, we enjoy our destructive behavior, no matter how much it makes us suffer, and in a way our dark nature is like a drug that we simply cannot get enough of, or come to terms with and overcome. Anyone else with intelligent ideas to offer on this song, I'd love to chat.
