Bush – Swallowed Lyrics 8 months ago
@[babyelf:53554] The song is about drugs - plain and simple. Drugs can be ingested (“swallowed”) smoked (“blackened lungs”) or injected (“fish hook”)

This guy is strung out and at times has the euphoria of using and feeling the BS ‘collective consciousness’ (“I’m with everyone and yet not”) those drugged out hippies from the ‘60s extolled about( think Beatles “come together right now, over me”) when he’s coming down or even in between hits he’s an addict who stuck “like a worm on a fish hook”, or in his case and addict stuck to the needle.

The sorrowed bit is obviously the shame and regret addicts live with and self loathing over his “sick head” and being “selfish”.

Linkin Park – Shadow Of The Day Lyrics 8 months ago
Song is clearly about s*****e. By locking windows and closing blinds, nobody from the outside can get in (help) or see in (report). Could be the person internalized and felt nobody wanted to see their pain, or, they made the deliberate intention to hide the pain from others.

“Sometimes goodbye’s the only way”

This could have been this person’s 2nd (or more) attempt, with the outpouring of love and support “In cards and flowers” placed on those same intentionally closed windows. There is a glimmer of hope they survived the attempt (“your friends all plead for you to stay”).

But in the end “and the sun will set for you”, it’s over. One way or another they are gone. You cannot have a sunrise (new day/beginning) until the previous day has ended at sunset.

Tragic song because we know what it’s about, it even gives us a slightly decent reason to be optimistic in the middle (maybe they survived…) just to have our worst fears confirmed by the end.

TRUSTCompany – Downfall Lyrics 1 year ago
Pretty straight forward here: dude is afraid of something that could possibly end him. Addiction, abusive/destructive relationship, or even a very bad disease. His fear is almost insurmountable.

He gathers the inner strength or motivation or self belief/confidence to overcome it. Happily ever after

Carbon Leaf – Grey Sky Eyes Lyrics 2 years ago
@[getlucky9797:49001] it’s about a guy mustering up the courage to ask a girl out. A person having grey eyes is rare, but my grandfather and aunt both had grey eyes, the girl this song is about does too.

“Would you allow me to be so into you my friend” is him finally approaching her

Tori Amos – A Sorta Fairytale Lyrics 2 years ago
The song is about finding “the one” and after a road trip, realizing they are not the one and parting ways. It all happens in the course from the start of the road trip until she becomes disillusioned and she’s out. I’m paraphrasing, but Tori said as much about this herself. Beautiful and haunting song.

30 Seconds to Mars – From Yesterday Lyrics 2 years ago
Jared Leto who wrote this song said it is open to interpretation, specifically telling people to attach their own meanings to it. Clearly somebody has a tortured past that they are running from, and the map of the world, regardless of how big it is, he will never be able to outrun his past.

Big Head Todd and the Monsters – Bittersweet Lyrics 2 years ago
Who hasn’t been there? Romance is 1% of a long term relationship, then reality sets in. That’s why you gotta make sure your partner has something upstairs, because that’s the real 99% of the relationship. Your partner ain’t got nothing up there - you f*cked.

Sponge – Rainin' Lyrics 2 years ago
It’s about addiction and having to hit rock bottom, like all addicts must, in order to have any chance at recovery.

“Things are great on the way up” getting high, nobody wants to experience the comedown, or worse, withdrawals.

“Life in a blackout, like life in a storm” if you’ve never been an addict then you have no idea what a blackout is, some of them can last for days depending on the substance.

“This is the day you break you are born” you’ve hit rock bottom from your addiction. Now what? Go back into that storm, or give that broken body a new rebirth and go into rehab and get help and conquer addiction.

The Perishers – Pills Lyrics 2 years ago
If I recall correctly the song was inspired by the death of a child of one of the band members, or some one very close to the band. The song is about the man and woman parents left behind after their loss.

Folk Implosion – Natural One Lyrics 3 years ago
Lou Barlow wrote and sang the song. He suffers from social anxiety disorder and considers himself alcohol dependent. I couldn’t not find anything where he confesses to drug addiction, but given his profession it’s not too hard to draw the inference and correlation to that as well.

The song is about getting high (or drunk) and he confirms it several times in the lyrics. He talks about being alone to love how he likes it and whatever keeps him high. The b*llshit that the illicit drug users go on about is the “oneness” they feel with the universe when they are high. Barlow could be talking about that oneness “natural one” or he could simply be happier and feel more natural and comfortable when he is by himself based on his social anxiety disorder. I suspect the song was inspired by both his substance issue AND his social anxiety disorder.

Great tune. Great musician.

Tantric – Mourning Lyrics 3 years ago
@[maxpower114:44805]

It’s about a relationship that went bad. Manipulation (“you conned me into thinking…”), lies, self discovery and believe it or not acceptance and redemption.

“Beauty thus become” - ask yourself what possible “beauty” could come from a relationship based on lies and manipulation….?

The child. Well, their child. A child was born from this relationship (“beauty thus become”) and his acceptance of this beautiful child has redeemed the lies (both his and hers) and allowed him to move on with this child in his life, leaving the woman behind.

Naked – Raining on the Sky Lyrics 3 years ago
Wow. I see I am coming at this much later on…here goes. The title itself “Raining on the Sky” means the world is about to be, or just was turned upside down. One cannot ‘rain on the sky’ from the ground up.

First Verse:

We are in metropolis and it’s night. The hum of the neon lights cannot keep rhythm with whatever song is playing. If our world has just been turned upside down, this means a new song rhythm is probability playing that the lights have not been calibrated to. The warm lipstick - a woman is present. The playground are the streets of metropolis and the moonlight has turned them into a playground.

Moving shadows means we are driving on these streets or riding on a bus or a train. A woman (probably the target love interest of the song) has had a manicure on he nails and is fresh from a bath where she has splashed with Jean Nate after wash. We are getting ready to go out dancing for a night on the town. At this club/bar/house party, people will all be trying to make a fresh start, building bridges from alivers of another’s dreams.

Refrain:
The pursuer pledges to get whatever his love interest wants. He also confirms that should she kiss him, it will seal this evenings bond or “tie” them together going forward.

Third Verse:

The two love interests are taking a checkered cab home. She falls asleep and dreams about Alice in Wonderland. The “Maddest Hatter” (her recent ex-boyfriend) has had her up until recently. In her dream this ex boyfriend (The Maddest Hatter) is assuring her that she is now spoken for by this new man she met tonight, and she is “home at last.” She’s been spoiled by rich men with Cadillac’s and bubble baths, but if she gives the new man the word, she’ll be home at last. Meaning with him, under more stable and less in the way of financial means, but happy, because this new man looks beyond her past and forgets about it.

Refrain: again, ledge to do whatever she wants.

Fourth verse:
When your heart aches with Verizon. It has turned into a new day. Her caked eye lash and torn nylons represent her old way of doing things, but now we have a fresh beginning with this new man who is willing to look past her history. The two of them begin their new life together, upside down from the earlier life, by being able to go “Rainin on the Sky”…
