| Lene Lovich – The Freeze Lyrics | 3 years ago |
| I\'ve always assumed it was about nuclear winter. We worried about global thermonuclear war a lot in the 1980s, and one of the expected results of such a conflict was a years-long winter due to all the dust it would kick up—the dust would block sunlight and the Earth would turn into a snowball, for a while at least. \n\nThe "ultimate device," by this interpretation, is the atomic bomb. The song seems to be about a group leaving an underground shelter for some reason. Maybe they were losers in a lottery held because there weren\'t enough resources in the shelter to support everyone? The "lucky ducks" would the ones who got to stay. | |
