Beautiful sad song. I understand it this way: "You were waiting outside for me in the sun" You, that's a child. The singer is the father. That was the past: He was ten feet behind the kid. But then... the mother and the kid left him. Years later: "I thought I saw your mother last weekend, in the park It could've been anybody, it was after dark" As said: They aren't together anymore now, the father and the mother. "You could've been right there next to me, and I'd have never known" There's no contact anymore. The father didn't see his kid for years, and maybe wouldn't recognize her/him. Really sad story. |
