Rick Springfield – Living in Oz Lyrics 8 months ago
Best Rick Springfield song without a doubt!

To me, it seems to be about determination to accomplish your dreams. Like when Dorothy says, "But it wasn't a dream!", him and his lover are determined that their dreams aren't delusions. And they have high expectations. He wants to be someone, and she wants someone. With these dreams and high expectations of themselves came costs that wake them up to reality. But they know whatever it costs, it's worth it to accomplish their dreams.

Rush – Workin' Them Angels Lyrics 10 months ago
I like how it could be very specific, or very vague. Clearly this is Neil. But it's also about how sometimes you look back on everything you've been through in life, and it seems like there was a supernatural power that was keeping you safe. Kind of like how life's a road, and roads can be dangerous.

Which is an interesting thing to think about. Some people are reckless their whole life, and don't get hurt. Some are careful, and still get consequences. But the question is, why would the supernatural power protect one and not the other. Reminds me of Job. It's cool when things connect.

Rush – Everyday Glory Lyrics 1 year ago
I think this does a good job of discussing child abuse. But technically it's not about that, because there's no abuse to the child happening. The child is a witness to the verbal and physical abuse. But it's just as bad, because it's about a child living in darkness. There might be a technical term for it, I don't know. I'll call it second hand abuse. Their parent's are supposed to guide them and bring joy to them. But they are arguing, and yelling at each other. Which is not how a parent should be a role model to their kids.

And I don't think anyone's mentioned the second part. Which, might be the most important, actually. The child looks at the world and sees its darkness as well. How sad everyone is. But read this:

Just one spark of decency
Against a starless night
One glow of hope and dignity
A child can follow the light

Now what I can't tell here is if the child is the spark or someone else is the spark, but it's basically the same thing. Someone decided to bring joy to the community. Hope and dignity.

And that leads into the lines of the last part:
We're the ones who have to shine
We're the ones who draw the line
We're the ones who have to try
We're the ones who have to fly

We have to shine in order to bring the light to everyone else. Share the joy.

It's almost as if this is a lot like something else that was written a long time ago. (Matthew 5:14-16) But Ayn Rand forbid that a Rush lyric is similar to a Bible verse.

Rush – Entre Nous Lyrics 1 year ago
Here's just a quick interpretation.

It's about unity in division. All the metaphors; A novel no one has read, planets, strangers, islands; all those show how different we are. And we are! I like the first one, because it is like no one knows anything about us. We need to recognize that there is a lot more to a person than their cover. Like, A LOT! But it talks about passing ships, and building bridges, which means that we need to still unify, even in our differences.

Great start for Rush, as it is their first song ever! (At least from our perspective. I don't know which one was written first.)

Music's fantastic! Since it's before Neil, the lyrics aren't that great. It's clearly about how this guy is simping for a girl he hasn't seen in a while.

Really, this is just about Roll The Bones main theme.

Take chances. Maybe you get unlucky, but you can still change that. And it seems that a major part of it is to control your emotions. You're not going to get anywhere by complaining. So just keep taking chances till you win.

Rush – Double Agent Lyrics 1 year ago
In general, it's about choices. Obviously.

But I see it relating to masturbation. He's sitting in bed. He can't sleep. Doing it would be wrong, but the darkness can be persuasive. It's a choice between darkness and light. That's just how I see it.

Rush – Prime Mover Lyrics 1 year ago
This is actually my favorite Rush song! (Who knew it be from Hold Your Fire, right? But I actually think that a lot of HYF songs are good.)

It's about the journey of life. I would say that most of your other interpretations are true, because it is just a very general subject about life. I would just like to go through and we'll see what life's about.

When you're born, you have basic instincts. You start to survive, but it gives you a drive to want. And when you get what you want, you learn happiness.

Life will be moving against you, but you need to push on. Sometimes you want to do something wrong to get through it, but your morality keeps you on the right track.

You start your life, you learn what it's about. You accept that this is your life. And you need to prove that it's worth living for.

You take action in your life, all the way till the end. The goal is perfection, but you will never get there. But you will try.

You change your opinion on things. You start to see things a certain way. You understand what's right and what's wrong.

People do not share the same view as you, so you must speak out about the truth. But when people agree, they change as well.

We think we know the right way, but then we might change our minds.

We have a new way of thinking, but eventually, that changes too. But we will know that we can't go back to the way we were.

You prepare for action. You learn concepts and skills.

You show people what you're about. Be proud about it. And watch your work come into fruition.

But anything can happen. And that's the journey of life.

Foo Fighters – Learn to Fly Lyrics 1 year ago
I've thought that this song is about leaving the mormon church to join actual Christianity. (Sorry, that sounds pretty rude.) But still, it's clearly not about leaving the "faith", it's just about changing your view on it.

It says, "Hook me up a new revolution. Cause this one is a lie." Yah, the book of mormon has many lies, so that works. "I'm looking for a complication. Looking 'cause I'm tired of lying." probably refers to the complications that their family is going to shun them. "Think I need a devil to help me get things right." could just refer to how the other mormons will not consider them righteous anymore.

"Fly along with me. I can't quite make it alone" could either refer to their walk with Jesus, or they have someone else who's in the same boat.

There are some lyrics that I don't know exactly what they mean. But hey, that's most songs.

But "Now I'm looking to the sky to save me. Looking for a sign of life. Looking for something to help me burn out bright." and "Run and tell the angels that everything's alright." probably means that they still want to know God. So it's a happy song.

Rush – Anagram (for Mongo) Lyrics 2 years ago
@[TrooperSeven:38812] But who or what is Mongo? Well, there's got to be some mystery right?
Also, I did some research, and a Mongo is Mongolian money. So it could just be "Anagram for Money."
It's also used as some slang terms. It's used for something "huge", something "excellent", for a "stupid" person, for a "mongoloid" (like the Devo song), items salvaged from the trash, an Australian, or the giant gingerbread man from Shrek 2. But be careful, because it's also a slur.

Rush – Anagram (for Mongo) Lyrics 2 years ago
Let's see if I can figure this out.

First off, I'd like to mention that the Anagrams are genius. But I think that there's a story here.

What I think could be happening, is that this is told from the perspective from an Angel or God, as they watch humanity. I also wonder if it is talking about the "End Times", but I'm not sure. Let's break down everything.

The first part seems to tell the nature of humans, by giving a history lesson. The "Snake coming out of the darkness" is Satan, ready to tempt Adam and Eve. "Parade from Paradise" means that they left the Garden of Eden. Men wanted to "end the need for Eden" because they were blinded by greed, and other stuff relating to rebellion. The "dreams of merchandise" brings us to the modern-day, where some people will do anything to sell what they have. Consumerism is a good word.

It seems that the stanzas talk about a specific group relating to consumerism.

The first group is about Governments. "Atomic" could mean many things, but since they used "tic-toc", that leans heavily towards atomic bombs. This isn't the first Rush song where they're mentioned. And the "leaders make a deal." Probably about the weapons. I think the next two verses are interesting. Neil is not saying that the moon landing is fake, that'd be dumb. But maybe that space exploration is mostly a "con", and that space is "comic" as in it's only for stories. Like a Star Trek utopia. This is important because rockets are for both space and nukes. So it's saying that they're putting all their resources into bombs.

This is the first chorus. I think that this part is what the Angels are saying to these people, and then ends in conclusion. The "feast" they're talking about is probably a metaphorical feast of greed. You know, feasts promise lots of food, but if it's all poisoned, that's bad. The "Beast" would likely just be talking about the Devil. It could be talking about the Beast in Revelation, but I'm not sure, so we'll just stick with the Devil. It's not saying to literally "stab" the Devil, but it's saying to put down his evil ways. The night is turning thin, could just be referring to the fact that all humans have a limited life. It could also be saying that the End Times are nearing. "The Saint is turning to sin" probably means that these people were either doing good things at first then stopped, or they had good intentions but it ended up bad. In the previous stanza, our Governments were supposed to lead us into glory, but instead, they're leading us into destruction.

The second group is about people who are, well, I don't really want to make enemies, but it's about Social Justice Warriors. "Resistance" can sometimes be violent, which is the theme of this stanza. "Art to resistance" means that they consider what they're doing personal expression. They don't care how "dangerous" they have to be to get what they want. Then their "Pride" can turn to misery. "Diamonds down to sand" really sums it up. See, what they are fighting for can be beautiful like a diamond. But when they use the methods that they use, they end up creating more destruction. That's the "Saint is turning to sin" part.

The third group is probably about "Big Business" people, specifically agricultural. The "small business" people have "heart" in what they do. They see the "brightness" of agriculture. But the "big business" people take away the "harvest" and replace it with consumerism. The "saint is turning to sin" refers to that nature was God's creation, but we use it for money.

The second chorus starts the same. But saying "reason is partially insane," says that anything can be twisted to be good. That what we see is just a "game" and not the truth.

The fourth group is the marketers. This could also refer to news anchors. "Miracles will have their claimers" probably says that these people claim to be able to fix your life, or that they're making the world a better place. "More will bow to Rome" probably says that people will buy this crap. If "he and she are in the house" then they are probably on a TV. But the only one "home" is the person watching them. They maybe wanted at first to make the world a better place, but they didn't. Hense, "the saint is turning to sin."

The fifth group could possibly be about the porn industry. The "splendor" of porn is easy to see. It asks a "response" from you. They always end in "lonely nights", but real happiness could be found from a real and true "friend".

It's possible that in this next part the Angels focus on a specific scene of that last group. Maybe they focus on a man and a prostitute. "I hear the rate of her heart." Do I need to explain that? "A tear in the heat of the art." Intimacy was the best gift that God gave, but we abuse it terribly.

So in conclusion, this song is about how people will sell you whatever they want, however they want, for whatever reason they want. No matter how many lies they have to tell. This, will lead to our destruction.

Rush – Cinderella Man Lyrics 2 years ago
I was reading this, and I came across an interesting thought. I can't decide if my hunch is correct or not, so I'll let you decide. There might be two things to take away here.

So the first one is the obvious one. Sometimes innocence can make you a better person. This character has mental issues, but they make him not look at his own problems, and he now looks to the hurting. He travels overseas to help the hungry. It's very inspirational to us, and tells us that we need to show love above all else.

But is it possible that there is a darker ending? Look at the last couple verses. Starting where he "awakened". It says that he faced "a world of cold reality", which would basically mean that his innocence is gone. And when I think of "holding" something up, I usually think of traffic. And to "challenge" someone, usually means to make them do something they don't want, or to give something up. So do you think what happened, is that he came to a harsh reality, and became like the ones who "called him insane"? That he realized that he could keep all the wealth to himself, and so he went back home? I mean, this is a story about someone with bipolar disorder. If he didn't change his mind, then why mention the manic depressiveness?

Food for thought.

Rush – Caravan Lyrics 2 years ago
I feel like what it's doing is combining old and modern settings to tell something. A caravan is probably mostly used when talking about the Oregon Trail. And really, the Oregon trail was for one thing. To accomplish dreams.

I mean, there's a lot of parallels. "In a world lit only by fire." Yah, they didn't really have electricity. "A long train of flares." Caravans would travel in trains. "Going where I want, instead of where I should." It would probably be more common and safer to stay in civilization. But they didn't! They had dreams and aspirations, and they were "Thinking Big!"

But I find it interesting that it talks about the "city". There weren't cities on the Oregon Trail. So this is probably where a modern setting comes in. The city is a major focal point of a lot of rush songs. And why shouldn't it be? The city is so fascinating.

So basically, this song is to inspire us to go for our dreams, no matter how many trials you may come across, and no matter what the norm is.

Rush – The Necromancer Lyrics 2 years ago
This is a continuation of my By-tor and the Snow Dog fanfic. The first part is on this website in the By-tor and the Snow Dog song.

Basically, a Necromancer of Hades is tormenting the earth. He is especially tormenting these three travelers. Little did they know that they were exploring a dungeon that is owned by the evil Necromancer. The Necromancer sucks their souls from them. They have no choice but to become his slaves.

Things are looking dark, but then, a portal appears. Through the portal comes the brave dog By-tor. He used to be a slave of the Necromancer as well. But he broke free from his bonds, and learned the truth. He has come to defeat the Necromancer.

By-tor makes the first move. He strikes the Necromancer with a lightning blast. The Necromancer is strong against By-tor's attacks, but not invulnerable. So the Necromancer summons an army of the dead.

By-tor has a long battle with these spirits, fighting through the dungeon halls. There are many, but he fights them all the way up to the surface. But up there, the Necromancer has summoned such a large army. It looks like it's going to be the end for By-tor.

But By-tor will not be defeated. He uses all his might to conduct energy of no end. He defeats the army with one swift blow. He doesn't stop there. He focuses his power on the Necromancer. He damages the Necromancer to a harsh degree. Nearly destroyed, the Necromancer flees.

By-tor releases all of the Necromancer's captives. They all rejoice. The land has been saved!

For now...

Rush – By-tor And The Snow Dog Lyrics 2 years ago
Let me try and figure out this fun, and mythical song.

There is a Necromancer from the depths of Hades. He has a dog named By-tor. Byt-tor is the underworld's best knight, so much that he is named the "Devil's Prince." However, By-tor is being mind-controlled by the necromancer to think that he has always been in the underworld when in reality, he was once a part of a mythical duo in the overworld.

Across the river of the underworld, a portal opens. He thinks it is his nemesis, but it was actually his friend from long ago. It is named the Snow Dog. The Snow Dog thinks that By-tor betrayed him. He doesn't know about the mind control.

The Snow Dog asks why By-tor betrayed him. By-tor says he doesn't know what he's talking about. He responds with a challenge, he can't let the Snow Dog appear in his domain, without a fight.

So then they battle.

By-tor shoots the first lightning blast. The Snow Dog blocks the attack, and fires his own blast. They both keep charging themselves up, throwing the best they got at each other. It's chaos, and the cave is being razed.

The Snow Dog wants to fight on his own turf, so he opens a portal to his dwelling place. He still doesn't want to destroy his own world, so he goes for a more assertive attack. When they're both through, he lunges at By-tor, scratching him up. By-tor of course starts to do the same. It's a battle of the claw. Each starts to wear the other out. It gets more and more bloody.

The Snow Dog then notices the mark on By-tor's forehead. He knew it could only be a mark from the underworld that is controlling his old friend. He knows what he has to do. He reaches for By-tor's forehead, and rips it apart. By-tor lets out one more major lighting blast, out of pain. The Snow Dog defends himself, but is pushed away from the massive blast.

After the explosion, the Snow Dog Looks up. Mostly all he can see is dust. But then he sees his friend in a crater, motionless. He runs over to him. His deformed friend is cold. The Snow Dog weeps.

Suddenly, By-tor opens one eye. The Snow Dog can't believe it, but eventually, he starts rejoicing.

He decides to get his healer. As he runs through his grounds, his disciples are congratulating him. Everyone is rejoicing, as dawn approaches and the dust settles.

By-tor, doesn't know what to think. He's confused. He decides to open up his own portal, and go home.

The Snow Dog comes running with the healer. He stops when he finds that By-tor, is gone.

Def Leppard – Rocket Lyrics 2 years ago
All of the other interpretations are probably correct. But I liked to make my own interpretation, just for fun.

Basically, I think that it could be about this guy, that is telling this new girl he's dating, that to experience love with him is wild and exciting. I actually almost picture it as a rockin' (and better) version of A Whole New World from Aladdin.

This seems to be about two lovers who clearly are not good for each other, but the guy wants to still have sex, or at least foreplay stuff.

Thank God for Neil Peart, because Rush's lyrics before him were often terrible.

One thing I can't deny though, I find this song extremely catchy, with Alex's guitar, and Geddy's parts with "Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah".

Rush – Available Light Lyrics 2 years ago
Even though this song doesn't mention humans much at all, I feel that this is about all of the People of the Earth.

The term "Available Light" is pretty simple to me. To see in that light, is to see all humans as God's creation. See, it says that politics, income, race, religion, talent, the opposite of talent, whatever we think define us, none of that matters.

Looking specifically at:
"Oh, the wind can carry
All the voices of the sea
Oh, the wind can carry
All the echoes home to me"
and
"Oh, the light can carry
All the visions of the sea
Oh, the light can carry
All the images to me"

I feel like the person this song is about, (which is all of us), is saying that they want to hear the voices and echoes of every person, and the visions and images of every person. To see them as the awesome people that we all are.

It reminds me a lot of "Give Me Your Eyes" by Brandon Heath. Both good songs, beautiful meaning.

Rush – Grand Designs Lyrics 2 years ago
Sometimes I wonder about Neil. What went on in his mind? Because he's throwing out very Christian terms. Talking about "spirit", and "righteous inspirations". I mean the title, "Grand Designs". I'm pretty sure atheists don't believe in grand designs. So really, what did Neil believe?

If you ask me, I think he was in the right place. Had the right beliefs. He was just filled with so much hate, that he didn't want to believe. But, truth is truth. It's kind of sad really.

So in my life, I see this as God's Grand Design for every one of us. I can relate with all the lyrics. But I can currently relate the most to "Like a rare and precious metal beneath a ton of rock. It takes some time and trouble to separate from the stock." I'm currently in a waiting stage of life. But eventually, a rare and precious metal will come my way. I just need to wait. and wait. and wait.

Rush – The Enemy Within (Part I of Fear) Lyrics 2 years ago
I doubt anyone else sees it this way, but I think of how the devil or demons might live within us.

"Things crawl in the darkness", like in 1 Peter 5:8 "Your adversary the devil prowls around".

To be honest, I don't know how demons work, and I don't know if they can be literally within us. But I can always see them working in my life. And I feel this heavily in a hormonal way. In a sexual way.

"That imagination spins", "A surge of adrenaline"
"Suspicious-looking stranger flashes you a dangerous grin" (Maybe a prostitute. I've never seen one, but still.)
"Shadows across your window" (Maybe naked silhouette.)

And it's about how we should deal with it. Saying things like how we can't just resist it, we have to revolt against it. Or how we need to live life to how it should rightfully be, and not just go with the flow. To not give in to what the devil says, and to walk the real adventure that God has for us. Not just sleazing it up for the rest of our lives.

That's why I like it. It's just how I think things should be. But actually doing all that stuff, and revolting against evil, well, I'm still working on that. Good luck to everyone else as well.

Rush – Best I Can Lyrics 2 years ago
Pretty meaningful to me right now. Especially the part at the beginning about other people's views.

Here's how I see them:

Blankers is difficult to define. Urban dictionary says "A highly offensive word to a white person." Doesn't make sense, because Rush is white. But if they have humor about themselves, then good on them.

Boasters is someone who boasts. In my life, I have seen a lot of classmates or just people my age who seem to base their life on how good they're doing at college.

Bluffers are people that bluff / lie. It reminds me of teachers and others who told me they cared about my future.

Posers want to impress others. Posers are the boasters that want to impress society. Like taking the paved way of life is the right way.

I could probably say something about every lyric, but I'll just leave it at that.

I love this song. To be honest, I don't find this anti-Christian at all, but merely only half the picture.
As a Christian, I know that Freewill is something that God gave us.

In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.

Between this song and that verse it makes me very happy.

Rush – Clockwork Angels Lyrics 4 years ago
This is mostly a response to lensman. First I'd like to say; good job on doing all that research. I respect anyone that does a lot of research.
In fact, I would agree on quite a few of the things he said. Looking at the lyrics of "Wish Them Well", they are very Christian indeed.
The one thing I completely disagree on is that this isn't about Neil's personal beliefs. In fact, I think that understanding Neil, and people like Neil, is the only way to understand this album.
Looking at "Wish Them Well", it's easy to see that Neil is really a great guy. He's not a jerk.
However, saying that this album "supports" Christianity is probably not right. I mean, have you listened to BU2B? Some songs may have the same moral beliefs from time to time, but it's very anti-Christian. Notice in this song, the part that starts with "lean not upon your own understanding" is sung very ominous, as to sort of reveal that this is the wrong way to think.

This song, and most of this album, is just Neil's Philosophical interpretation of life. Sometimes using sarcasm against other religions, or sometimes coming out and saying things very bluntly. The album Clockwork Angels is his religion.
