The Obama imagery here is huge. People were angry that their hero ("lover") presided over years of aerial drone bombing. They wanted him to answer for it, but he barely even acknowledged it. All of the war imagery and betrayal references fit this model. Artists at this level NEVER acknowledge this kind of political content. They prefer to tour without being shot at. |

| This song fully captures the feeling of the alt-right's support for Trump and regressive policies in general. Bush-type supporters have been feeling left out by Obama, sleeping the forest floor, but now they can hear their lion roar, a definite Trump reference. The most brilliant line here is "watch your watch unwind" as we go back to civil-rights era clashes and obsessing about the scary Russians (sigils is another word for "sickle" like the ole hammer and sickle. Then you look at that cover, a bunch of kids trying to act scary, and its such a good picture of the current White House, so much blustering and antagonism, but under the surface its just big-business-as-usual. The funny thing is this was probably written before the primaries even started. So the word about Trump, the media product, on NBC for 10 years, on right wing radio constantly, covered obsessively by CNN during the early primaries, was known by ranking people in the industry. When he gets on your nerves, think of this album's cover. | |

My ears pricked up when I heard this line: Openly defective is the lover you elected and A portrait she was bound to portray. because it sounded like a reference to Trump, right? I mean, even his biggest supporters have to admit, he's very defective. That's what they like about him in fact, so please don't deny it (that's the "sick love"). And I think that last line is "born to portray" , and it sure looks like he has been groomed by the media since the 80s to be this crazy character. And then you look at the cover of this album, a little girl with a FOX as her guide and a big (russian) bear as a guard, and go "wow, this really is a Trump reference". B-u-u-u-t this album was recorded probably well before the 2016 primaries were in full swing. like I said, the grooming for the trump presidency started a L-o-o-o-ng time ago. Not every song is about the singer's girlfriends. Think a little deeper. |
