The song is clearly about Tyler's love/hate relationship with songwriting. What was once a way to deal with his anxiety and depression is now a job. His body lives on lead (a pencil). Lead is terrible in flavor because it is hard to draw on the feelings that make great songs but NOW the lead doubles as a "paper maker" meaning he earns paper writing now. The entire album is inspired by the time he spent quarantined at home creating a new world in his mind. Pet Cheetah mentions locking himself in a room for 8 hours a day for 8 days straight without a line to show for it. Loving to hate the fight is simply the internal struggle to do something that while therapeutic is also a full time job now. |
