| Shirley Bassey – Moonraker Lyrics

They obviously wanted to work the title of the film into the song, but it doesn't make sense. The Moonraker in the movie is a shuttle. The Moonraker in the novel is a rocket. A moonraker in real life is apparently the top sail on a ship. So ... how does that work in the song? |

I read that Blackie reaffirmed his Christian faith. In this song, he is praying to Jesus and he feels that he himself is being crucified. I\'m not religious, but I think it\'s a beautiful song. |

Unless I\'m completely missing the point, in the song he has just been told by a priest that a loved one has died, and he is in mourning. |

I like the melody and the lyrics, but I don\'t get the reference to Altamont. Is he using Altamont as someone\'s name? When I hear "Altamont", all I think of is the disastrous Rolling Stones free concert. |

@[ZepHead86:38902] Except according to wikipedia, her name is Sharon Rachel Osbourne, with the maiden name Levy. Her father went by the name Don Arden, so You could get the "S", the "A", and the "O", but what would the "T" stand for? |

I love the line about someone treasuring a picture of you. Beginning by complimenting her nose, then telling her she's not beautiful is odd. |

The song is like a horror movie. She's not just tiny. She's scary tiny. When he sings, "And now she's in me", that line is literal. She was miniscule enough to crawl into his body, and now she's destroying his organs. I get chills whenever I hear this. |

I don't know what this song is about, but I assume it is not about the James Bond movie. |

Many of U.D.O.'s songs appear to be about some kind of dystopian future with tyrants and robot cops. It seems silly ("rev-raptor"?), but it sounds good. |

@[Tom_And_Jerry:31881] Cyndi Lauper's "She Bop" also covers the same topic, in a way that most of us didn't pick up on what the song was about until we were told.
Both are more subtle than the Divinyls' "I Touch Myself". |

Can a song be better than this? A great chorus, a bit of a history lesson, an amazing guitar solo, and it starts off one of the best albums of one of the best rock groups of all time. |

An absolutely brilliant song. It's too bad some of the lyrics are missing here because the following line is my favorite: "When you were just a child, you cried the way that other children cried. But how were we to know each tear that fell was from a killer's eye?" |

| Ray Davies – Things Are Gonna Change (The Morning After) Lyrics
| 6 years ago
|
|
When I heard Ray do this in concert, I thought it was deeper than it apparently is -- drawing an analogy between waking up with a hangover (or with a strange woman after a drunken evening) and the day after the nuclear bombs drop. Looking at the lyrics, it seems to be more literally about how you wake up the next day with a hangover and regrets and think that this is the last time you're going to do this, only to do it all over again. |

| Zebra – When You Get There Lyrics
|
This song is told in the second person, directed to "you", a person (I always assumed a man) waking up with a woman ("you seem to have forgotten her name").
After the chorus, and we get the information that it had been a "one night stand".
But then in the last part, this person ("you") walks up to "our front door", and has come up with the lie of sleeping at Mary Lou's, but Mary Lou is there and cries when she hears the lies. The only way that sleeping at Mary Lou's would be a good alibi is if "you" was a woman, and the singer is a man. So was the "you" a woman? And had she slept with a woman? Was the one-night stand a same-sex encounter? |

I haven't figured this one out. Is is about a female serial killer? A victim of ritual in that she can't stop herself? In any case, the use of Bolero is very cool. |

It seems like she's singing about a stalker who kills himself at the end with a final letter for her. I wouldn't be surprised if Tarja has had some stalkers and this is written from experience (adding the suicide for dramatic effect). |
