Arctic Monkeys – Four Out of Five Lyrics | 6 years ago |
When I first heard this song, it gave me HUGE reminisceses of 'Hotel California' by The Eagles, especially with the way they incorporate the electric guitar. The way Alex Turner describes his love and appreciation for this Hotel/Casino almost mirrors the way the lead singer of the Eagles describes his appreciation for the 'Hotel California'. As we all know, 'Hotel California' has incredible deeper meanings pertaining to Los Angeles and the city as a whole, and how the music industry of the 60's was basically controlled by studio agents, and those who had money. Specifically, in the beginning of 'Four Out of Five', Alex sings about how nice it is to live in this 'Hotel' -we assume- and also how easy it is to find love and luxury. In one specific line, Alex says, "Since the exodus, it's all getting gentrified." In short this would obviously mean there was a mass departure of people to leave such a place abandoned. Who exactly abandoned it is unclear, and up to the listener to decide, just as much as the rest of the song is up to the listener to interpret, but this is just mine, and I'm glad I could share it. |
