Blue Öyster Cult – Godzilla Lyrics 4 years ago
We're all right. And we're all wrong. Great prior comments. While reading & processing these thoughts I had another one. The comment from the Japanese government about "awakening a sleeping giant" from WWII rings true.(cue Godzilla
rising up out of the water) US plans to invade & subdue were aimed at Tokyo. Nuclear bombs eliminated two different targets as we well know. The thoughtful mind realizes these explosions were also meant to send a message to Russia/ Communism. Don't fuck with the biggest kid on the block. But to their "credit" they still do. Bin Laden got us to spend x amount of trillions of dollars to fight the war on terror. Did we recover? Yes. Did he change our way of life, no. We pawned off that debt onto a different generation. Thank Zeus we all die. Who would want this bullshit to go on forever?

History does show how we humans are at war with nature. Eastern philosophy points this out easily. We don't feel we are a part of nature and prove this by altering our environment. The critiques here fall short of any actual argument against deep meaning. Do businesses regularly screw the little guy? Across human existence it seems to have. Does America embody all the evils of capitalism . . lurking from an ocean away? We do. Maybe our turn as world police has extended too long. They say it is the longest running republic of this kind. Are we headed for a fall? Indeed. Will we avoid the errors of the late greats? I highly doubt it. Great fucking song. Again those who can do, those who cannot criticize.

Radiohead: "Anyone can play guitar"
Me: "Can they?" = )

Midnight Oil – Forgotten Years Lyrics 6 years ago
Having just listened to Blue Sky Mining & absorbing it quickly the following are fairly obvious, to me. I am the only one who views it just so. Like each prior post. Great comments & stories. The song does what it sets out to do. I love the imagery Mr Garret conjures out of his experience. Which just so happens to be all of our experience. Human activity is relatable, who knew?

I echo the paternal relationship with Great Britain. I have often remarked the same about the States. You don't need a masters degree to climb on board. There are no apologies & why would there be? These years were hard fought & won. Yes soldiers from Australia & New Zealand were tossed into the fray. This whole topic makes me ponder how many conflicts/ wars/ terrorist attacks never existed. Fighting in the Vietnam War proved two things: The enemy realizes the length you'll go to protect your interests & where would you prefer to fight? Over there or over here?

I love the symmetry. Has Australia or America ever been invaded? I don't count the 1812 drubbing but we not only survived we went on to surpass the father. War hero turns president model was strong but waning in these modern days. A sad day when a kid can beat dad at whatever. Yet we are all still on the same side. A terrible & awesome power our country's leaders weild. How devoid life would seem without other people to remind us that the best time . . is now. = )
