Godley & Creme – An Englishman in New York Lyrics 4 years ago
I tried to get the lyrics changed to the Godley and Creme lyrics rather than Sting's song, but nothing has changed.

I wonder if 'street alligator' meant something specific?

The Move – Weekend [Stereo][#] Lyrics 5 years ago
Here are what seems to me to be the correct lyrics (submitted to Song Meanings so they may change to these):

Friday night and everything's right on the weekend
Crazy clothes and anything goes on the weekend
John got Lynn and Jim got Sue
I made a date with a little old you

Off we went to make a big date on the weekend
No harm done just having some fun on the weekend
Cartop down, just a ridin' around on the weekend

Took a ride to Lookout Hill
The view up there was sure a thrill
That was all, we had a big ball on the weekend

There we were just sitting cool and cozy
I just had time to steal a little kiss
A police with a flashlight tried to nose in
He said, "Holy Mackerel there, what is all this?"

No harm done just having some fun on the weekend
Took a chance on a-crashin' a dance on the weekend
We were almost inside the place
And somebody slammed the door in my face
"Hey you guys, you gotta wear ties on the weekend"

Crazy clothes and anything goes on the weekend
That was all we had a big ball on the weekend.

But I'm not denying that it could well be about snigging glue as well. The lyrics fit both interpretations. Genius songwriting.

>We know you're used to sixteen or more Sorry we only have eight" refers to the number of tubes of glue that the song subject would buy.

No, no, no. It's about 16mm and 8mm. That's what anyone in the 70s would understand this to mean in the context of a movie night.

>"Showing his films in the den," "start the projection machine" and the title "Everyone's gone to the movies" refer to the visual effects of the high.

"Showing his films in the den" refers to showing his films in the den. "Start the projection machine" refers to starting the projection machine. That used to happen in the 70s. In those days if you had a movie projector and could show films you were seen as a cool guy.

It's definitely 'cheaters', not 'chinos'. Which is short for windcheaters, ie your jumper or jacket or top.
