| Joanna Newsom – The Book of Right-On Lyrics | 5 years ago |
|
It seems silly to attribute religious or moral intent to this song. I Just went and listened to Joanna Newsom... her song writing is not so literal, and her lyrics and melody are frequently whimsical. She is definitely not hung up on religion. The "book of right on" and "pray" are metaphors. There is no literal book. This is a song about sex and dominance and submission. "Do you want to run with my pack? Do you want to ride on my back? Pray that what you lack does not distract" Read it without preconceived notions of religion... you will get it. |

| Neil Diamond – Holly Holy Lyrics | 6 years ago |
| Holly Holy (correct spelling) is not a religious song, rather a testament to the spiritual power accessible thru the love between a man and a woman. The song is a long rising crescendo (like having sex), culminating in the ultimate product of love and the truest meaning of life... a child between them... "And the seed, Let it be filled with tomorrow" | |
| Van Morrison – Into The Mystic Lyrics | 7 years ago |
|
My take on this great song is very different from those above. My Mom died 5 years ago, and a year later my Dad was dying. I heard "Into the Mystic" and it brought a flood of tears to my eyes, because it was speaking of my parents and their life. They had been married for 72 years and were always very much in love. Now, if there is a heaven, they were about to be rejoined... "Let your soul and spirit fly into the mystic". The sailing references are metaphors for navigating thru life. They met when they were only 20 years old in the brilliance of youth, (We were born before the wind, also younger than the sun) and married after only 7 dates. Dad was in training as a B17 pilot preparing to head to WWII. They spent 30 years in the military, and raised 6 kids. When my Mom died, the light went out of Dad's eyes. He wanted her more than anything, so "When that foghorn blows, I'll be comin' home", and "magnificently we will sail into the mystic". |
