Placebo – Every You Every Me Lyrics | 6 years ago |
I´ve read some interpretations, and eventhough I once agreed with the interpretation of a destructive relationship... now that I´m older and have experienced more relationships I do think is a love song. It´s very cynical and melodramatic, but... that is Placebo Sucker love is heaven sent -- I think "sucker love" is just a cynical name for "love" or "being inlove", also "heaven sent" gives me the idea that this relationship is new... so it cannot be abusive o destructive in any kind, cause is just starting. You pucker up, our passion's spent -- this refers to both of them being through many relationships and finding it difficult to start again. My heart's a tart, your body's rent -- My body's broken, yours is bent -- this is basically saying they´re both fucked up, but because previous experiences, Carve your name into my arm Instead of stressed I lie here charmed. - I think these two lines are what sold it to me as a love song. I think that Brian (an artist) is always affraid to belong to someone, or of people knowing he is a relationship... or didn´t like that idea, but in this new relationship he seems to like it. He wants this person in his skin marked forever and people knowing that he belongs to someone else. Cuz there's nothing else to do -- my interpretation is that they are in love again and there´s nothing else to do... they want to be together Every me and every you -- and this line for me is the definition of "true love" they are the same, they are both fucked up, and have suffered and maybe are bad people, but that is why they belong together. Sucker love, a box I choose -- No other box I choose to use -- maybe the box of pandora, like the destruction of everything he believed in and that was his life, but now he chooses to change, because he is in love. Another love I would abuse -- No circumstances could excuse -- I think that he sees himself as an abuser, but in part because he has never found an equal. but now he does. he found someone he can´t abuse. Also, being a "rockstar" you can always abuse of people´s love...and you do it... because you can.... but now he found his match. In the shape of things to come -- Too much poison come undone -- Again, they are fucked up right now, but being together is healing them. So, he sees himself to be okay in the future. Cuz there's nothing else to do -- Every me and every you -- Every me -- Sucker love is known to swing -- I don´t know why, but I have the feeling that he is talking about the other person, that is know for being a cheater and stuff Prone to cling and waste these things -- and also for taking advantage of others and don´t appreciate the love of others. This lines I think that make a lot of sense when we interpret than Brian sees himself as and abuser and then finds his match... another abuser. but together.... they are just happy. they are the same. Pucker up for heaven's sake -- There's never been so much at stake -- it´s the first time that he has felt like this for someone. For trusting this person, who is just like him, he could really get his heart broken. I serve my head up on a plate -- a reference to falling in love, giving himself to this person. It's only comfort, calling late -- it´s something he has always wanted to do, but never found to whom to surrender. Like the naked leads the blind -- I know I'm selfish, I'm unkind -- He is describing himself, a bad person ( I think is being very melodramatic) and also maybe how people or society has made him feel about himself. but also "naked leads the blind" he always falls for people he can control or surrounds himself of people he can control/abuse. (But this person is different of course) Sucker love I always find -- Someone to bruise and leave behind -- the same idea here, I don´t think he is talking about his past love relationships, he is talking about all relationships (family, friends, fans, lovers, etc) he uses everyone... and this is some sort of heads up. All alone in space and time -- There's nothing here, but what here's mine-- I truly think of Brian as a genius and true artist, and I think that (being an artist myself) that he is in eternal loneliness. This is how he has always felt... and believes will always feel; and what he has built with his art (his songs) is his, but he seems to see his songs as nothing too. Something borrowed, something blue -- a very radical change, but a beautiful contrast, I do get this as the tradition of a wedding. so... after describing their new love and being well aware of the risk (the part of "sucker love is known to swing") and warning the other person of how his life is... (we should get married then) and the end i do think they are both known to abuse and to be cheaters and stuff... Every me and every you -- And this phrase again, he was found an equal and that is why he wants to stay with this person.... I do believe it´s a true love song, but about two very dark characters... and well, Brian being such an amazing and unique artist writes about it in a very crude way. But very real, and I believe the only kind of love he thinks can make him happy... with someone who is just like him. |
