Agree to the above though what the rest of this song means I’d still love to know - it’s like a plethora of individual ideas that have only a very tenuous connection!! (Not sure if there’s a story to it I’m not quite getting). |

A great synopsis here of how it comes to be that we have armies in the 21st century, how they are made up, how they have come to be compliant to the role, how they can be used nefariously and unknowingly, how they are abused and how it affects even the personal relationships of the individuals in question. An incredible , what, 40 line condensing of a stupendously complex aspect of modern day life we - pretty much all - would like to be able to live without. |

I am love with this song - at present at least - as it sums up so much of my overall desire for the foundations of religion itself (which Israel embodies) and describes what it could and should be able to achieve far over and above what it has done so far.
Don’t get me wrong - I no longer find a religious belief to be a forward thinking or productive mode of existence however it is still is as such for much of the human populace and thus it does still have its role to play. Oh that it did it well...
Remember what your fundamental motives are - what your principles truly are. That you were born as guilty sinners - as we all, arguably, are - and that self-appreciation (loving yourself) is the key to your role in the world as it is. |

| Morrissey – Jacky's Only Happy When She's Up on the Stage Lyrics

Really don’t quite know what parallel he might be drawing here between ‘Jacky’s’ life and current events - or life in general - but I think that there probably is a parallel somewhere and I can only imagine that this is his one (fairly obtuse) comment on the subject of our time - in Britain at least - of governance.
The repeated use of the word ‘exit’ in the last stanza in 2017 cannot be brushed over - I would argue at least.
I’m really trying to understand what his thinking might be in any parallel and if any of you can offer any thought on this I would certainly be interested to hear of it. Thanks. |
