John Lennon – #9 Dream Lyrics 8 years ago
The #9 held great importance in Mr Lennon's life and major life events.
But regardless, rather than a dream dream, I always imagined a drug filled thought or hallucination.
Who knows tho

Eric Clapton – Wonderful Tonight Lyrics 8 years ago
@[Bojangles33:21016] Dude! You have cool parents!! My parents' song is Elvis' "can't help falling in love with you"

I don't think my mom knew who Clapton was til his son died and he wrote "Tears in Heaven"

Eric Clapton – Wonderful Tonight Lyrics 8 years ago
Uh.....idk. This song seems pretty self explanatory on the surface. Written in a story telling way.
I guess with the "story" he's reiterating how much he cares for her. And ditto.

Procol Harum – A Whiter Shade of Pale Lyrics 8 years ago
Yeah I have no thoughts to add except I first heard it when I saw The Big Chill (it's on the soundtrack)
So for me , it will always remind me of death.

David Bowie – Young Americans Lyrics 8 years ago
I read something many many years ago that supposedly was "said by Bowie" that all in all getting married young (20-ish). Is maybe not so good , particularly in America. "We've lived for just these 20 years. Do we have to die for the fifty more"
Cuz the whole song just goes into all the struggles of two young people who started out in love - but getting married gave them a huge dose of reality

David Bowie – Space Oddity Lyrics 8 years ago
Idk. When I think of this song, I have to also think about "Ashes to Ashes".
The isolation. Fascination wit space (Bowie even said the inspiration came from seeing "2001: A Space Odddysey" numerous times while on drugs.
So I guess isolation, drugs and space would be correct answers.

Ah, screw it! It's just a GOOD damn song!

David Bowie – The Width of a Circle Lyrics 8 years ago
Good grief ! So much to say about this song, as he covers so much ground.
I just thought I'd bring up the recurring theme of his fear of aging/dying that we here in the beginning, as well as in so many other songs

David Bowie – Word on a Wing Lyrics 8 years ago
Out of curiosity when you're that far gone on drugs, (96 lbs at the time), you get desperate. He was more asking the higher power for the strength to pull himself back up.

Forgive him all the little Christian "faux pas".
The man was singing a song that came from the heart - crying for someone - anyone "even God, who he's denounced in the past.

If it was religiously politically correct,
A. The song wouldn't flow
B. It would ruin the idea that David was obviously not used to praying.
To call out to a higher power had to have been hard for him

David Bowie – Word on a Wing Lyrics 8 years ago
@[asSTARSfallx:21015] My take on Word on a Wing is that it's genuine, however David didn't quite feel comfortable asking for help from anyone, let alone a higher power. I love it's desperation and raw-ness.
Now I find "Loving The Alien" to be a bit more sarcastic toward religion

Pink Floyd – The Great Gig in the Sky Lyrics 8 years ago
I've read many opinions, and supposed band explanations to Great Gig in The Sky. One theme stands out.
The dying processs. You can even hear it in the singer's voice : the sadness, denial , desperation, and finally release

Ed Sheeran – The A Team Lyrics 8 years ago
I agree that it's Def about addiction. I agree with what most of y'all are sayin.
All you have to hear are the first 3 lines it's obvious he's referring to smoking coke/crack., although the overall tone could be applied to any drug.

I always thought the "A" in A Team referred to "Addiction" but who knows.

And anyone who's been unfortunate enough to have a prob with this deug knows that you don't ever feel like going out to get more, let alone earn the money to get more.

This song is depressing in a beautiful kind of way, I think
