I simply cannot agree more with “HiOnMusic’s” post of a decade ago. Leonard Cohen is also my favorite contemporary poet, lyricist, philosopher. Anohni is my favorite singer/song writer. Anohni singing this song grabs my heart from the first to the last note. She is the perfect person to interpret and sing this song/prayer. Thank you to Leonard (wherever you are) and to Anohni. |

I love the Live in Australia version. On one hand I see it as a dependent relationship with the writer being needy and at times abusing the “love”. But on the other hand, I gravitate to the “guardian angel” line and think of a deceased person in my life who’s memory helps me when I’m down, feel out of control and I need her to turn to for comfort. Just fits for me! I love this song and Elton’s arrangement/voice. Thanks much!! |
