The Jesus and Mary Chain – Cut Dead Lyrics 6 years ago
In response to DJgif - I think it is very likely that it is about William Reid's parents/upbringing. He has said in interviews and such that he blames his parents and how they raised him for his mental issues depression and such. Thank you for pointing that out it shines a totally new light on what I thought was another love song!

Joy Division – Atmosphere Lyrics 6 years ago
I think this song is about depression and self hatred and how he feels no one understands him and his condition and he is left alone with a tough unapproachable persona and no one will spend the time or can understand him so he is left in a lonely state where everyone he loves has left him out of misunderstanding and he just wants to be loved and understood

The Jesus and Mary Chain – The Hardest Walk Lyrics 6 years ago
I believe this song is about when he finds He is no longer in love with someone he has been with.

"I never thought that this day would ever come when your words and your touch struck me numb. Oh and it's plain to see it's dead"

He is saying that he no longer loves them and that the relationship is over for him.

"And I'm stuck in a shack. Down the back of the sea. Oh and I'm alive and I'm alone inside a sick sick dream. Oh is it me is it me that feels so weak I cannot deceive but I find it hard to speak"

He is saying that he is stuck in the relationship because he is too "weak" and he can't keep up the act anymore.

"The hardest walk you could ever take is the walk you take from A TO B to C"

This could either mean it's very difficult for him to "walk from a to b to c" which is his everyday life or walk because of this relationship or that it's the hardest walk for him to walk out of the relationship and leave and saying it's A to B to C is like saying it's just natural what he must do but it's still difficult.

"I walk oh honey I talk. Do not want you to want me.
Don't want you to need me x4
and I walk"

This ending can be either that he leaves the relationship and he feels bad thus the "don't want you to want/need me" or that he he keeps walking or continuing his life as it is in the relationship and hoping that his partner breaks up with him or stops loving him

The Jesus and Mary Chain – Never Understood Lyrics 6 years ago
"I think I'm going back to school
'Cause I'm tired of being a fool
And I'm tired of playing it cool
I think I'm going back to school"
I think this is talking about how he longs for the past before he felt like a "fool" back to when William and Jim didn't hate each other and back before they even became succesful.

"In the days before America"
I think William is talking about before they were successful enough to make it too america.

"In the days before priests"
Talking about in a cryptic sense before their band because the band ha a constant reoccurring joke or theme with Jesus and Christianity hence their name and if you look at songs like Jesus Fuck, Reverence, etc.

"In the days before Rolling Stones"
I think this is talking about before they become too ambitious and when they were just some friends making music, because they have said in interviews they've wanted to be more successful then the rolling stones. So saying before we got super ambitious

"Everybody hates the President
Everybody loves the Queen
Break the planes and close the planet down
Why don't you break with me"
I'm not exactly sure but i'm guessing this is another reference to how they despised america (maybe as a symbol of their fame) and long for the days back in the UK, and he doesn't want to travel anymore he just want to be done hence breaking the planes.

"I think I'm going out of style
I think I've known it for a while
I think I've known it with a smile
I think I'm going home"
This is about how he realizes that its all falling apart around him the band hasn't been very successful for awhile, William and Jim hate each other and the band is about to split, but instead of a terribly sad tone about it. William is happy because if you look to his song "Darklands" which is about how William has to go and stay in the 'darklands' a depressed state of misery to write good music and how he sacrifices his well being for his art. He is now happy that he gets to go settle down with his family and doesn't have to remain in his depressed state he can allow himself to be happy.

Queens of the Stone Age – If I Had A Tail Lyrics 7 years ago
I think this song might be about as someone else has suggested a psychopath's dissatisfaction and apathy around life and society in general, the craving for the ultimate freedom.
"Animals in the midnight zone
When you own the world, you're always home"
To fall to animalistic instinct lacking any form of morality and not having to worry about punishment. To essentially become a monster as the title "If I had a tail" suggests. Which this person believes is the only way to gain the power they so desperately crave.
"Tears of pleasure
Tears of pain
They trickle down your face the same
It's how you look
Not how you feel"
This too me seems very much like rape. and
"Get your hands dirty, roll up them sleeves"
"Da doo run run
You wont get far"
seems a lot like taunting and murder. Rape and murder both tie into a power crave. Which is what this person is seeking, power.

The Jesus and Mary Chain – War on Peace Lyrics 7 years ago
I believe this song is about the writer's dissatisfaction with becoming old. He is alone and empty in his old age. He has no one to love and he is trying to feel something. Though nothing seems to fill up the empty apathy inside him, and by the line "What if I run? Where would I run too?" He is saying he has no one and has nothing. That no matter how much money he has made or with all his fame it is not paying off. He is still empty he is alone and has no one too love.
