The recording is (presently) on YouTube. Thanks to whomever shared it! While Plant has said little of this song, I wonder if it pertains to Plant trying to move ahead in his solo career but so many voices telling him to go back to "old ground" - namely from the prior decade. After Shaken N Stirred, he did - well, a lot of the music, with a new Now and Zen line up. The rest is history, but this song is gorgeous, moving, and endlessly stirring. Shaken N Stirred... 35 years on and it's still ahead of its time... |

| Performed live in 1985 in Detroit, Michigan (Palace of Auburn Hills). A video of the show exists but apparently not online anywhere. | |

| Blunt's guitar riff at the end of the song loosely mimics the theme music from a spy television show, according to Plant. It's believed to be a reference to Get Smart with Don Adams. | |
| Robert Plant – Worse Than Detroit Lyrics | 8 years ago |
| The title of the song (apparently) comes from a line in the 1980 movie, "Airplane!" Main character Ted Stryker is describing bar he frequented during the war: "It was a rough place - the seediest dive on the wharf. Populated with every reject and cutthroat from Bombay to Calcutta. It's worse than Detroit." | |
