John Denver often expressed his love of the earth, nature and his fellow humans in the words of His songs. In this song He seems to be speaking on behalf of our creator in the first two verses, echoing the Biblical creation. The third verse He sings on behalf of himself, thanking His creator. The most interesting lines are "It please me to have you here for just a little while" - the short human lifespan. Yet He goes on to express the hope of something more when He says "If the truth is told they (chains) will never come again." This song is about creation and the hope of eternity. It is one of John Denver's most haunting and beautiful compositions. |
