Sure, we were nothing but a bunch of teens then, but we had an ideolgy and some of us still have it. Rock'n'roll is what your correctly call. the "easy way out", panem et circensis: The slaves, the clowns, that were allowed to do what every (mostly male) youngster would like to do: have lots of sex, do all the drugs, be adored, have the biggest cars, be naughty... And while everybody aspired to be that guy, we toiled away or present. Somebody replied "but rock'n'roll is still here", Yeah, sadly it is. Hip-Hop, Rock'n'roll, same stuff. Easy way out, not that people start thinking for themselves. |

He only speaks basic Spanish this is not Puertorriccan, because we hispanics may use different words for stuff, but it's not the words, but the grammar that makes no sense ans is as alien to Spanish as what it would sound like in English -> "Throw less more than life" . He may have wanted to say "The echo de menos, más que a mi vida" or something like that... Which would mean "I miss you more than my life" , which still is pretty low in the sense-making scale, but at least is slightly better. |

@[Thesmellyone:47287] The problem is that the "Spanish" is mangled beyond recogition. As a native speaker I can perfectly understand the _sung_ lyrics, even though they use a strong Puertorican dialect, but we hispanics manage to understand each other pretty neatly. The story goes: There's a dude and a gal called Rosa, who is a surfer, they are on the becah walking and fucking... and her surfboard is swept away by the waves (Se fue su madera, oh my golly, oh my golly) And then he goes on bitching about that the live is crap etc. Note that the lyrics as written down (and I know these are copied from the album's lyrics sheet) are totally different from what Joey Santiago sings in the song. I have no idea why they did this, Joey's Spanish is pretty bad, but workable, what's on the sheet seems like somebody else with little to no clue about Spanish writing down what Joey was saying. Maybe some sort of inside joke? |

@[steve82c:35886] It is way simler and much more mundane: Emily is Emily Young, the sculptor. She was an acquaintance of Syd Barret. And Free Games for May was a concert (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Games_for_May) I am not sure if the song is teasing Emily or dissing her. And "Play" is for playing music not playing games. Besides of the fact that this "Games of May" was a concert I have no idea who played / acted, but it's safe to assume that Emily Young was performing with a band or solo. She seems to have messed up and had issues with the sound and got very angry. The firs verse probably means that she wanted to cover some material from somebody (also probably without asking), the second is rather obvious, and the third surely was something that she may have said. Thus, pretty mundane. Syd Barret was quite a friend of doing that. For instance "Octupus ride" is about a fairground and with it's attraction, the octopus is one of them. Took me some sleuthing :) |

New York Dolls were notable junkies, of the sort that really like it They were known for stopping a gig just because they got too high and hide behind the speakers to throw up. They definitely could stand the drug culture, they actually enjoyed it with gusto. |

@[handofdoom:16177] Well, that's very nice, but I think that Slayer wouldn't agree. When they wrote this happy tune they were perfectly aware that they were writing it in a very definite way using very particular features and not others. Metal has many styles and the musicians are professional enough to know what they compose and how they compose it and that's when a band decides to do black, thrash or death metal they don't end up playing a jig or a tango ;) |
