David Bowie – Up the Hill Backwards Lyrics 9 years ago
@[coo2kachoo:16942] "The possibility it seems to offer" is the "vacuum" created by a false freedom but as long as we feel "free" it'll be alright.
This is one of my lifelong Bowie albums. Between Station To Station and Diamond Dogs, all 3 have metaphors for the way society "tells you" to be or act.
Up the hill backwards, walking up a hill backwards seems easier but it isn't. Or pushing a car up a hill with a rope is pointless, David Bowie was well, well ahead of his time and more talented than any performer I've been grateful has blessed my life since I was 10 (I'm 50 now).
This song is an acoustic style jam with electric guitar pkus notice the guitar work is angry, crying or screaming. Each song depicts that on Scary Monsters.
And to me, those albums Hunky Dory, Heroes and The Lodger sum up a handful of albums as must haves in any music collection for their poetry and his incredible vocals, hr is a crooner like Bing Crosby and blew the sh*t outta ol' blue eyes... IMHO of course, but I believe this song as this album is based on what "society" is (at least) supposed to be.
Keeps him running. <3
