| I've always considered this to be about wasted potential--having sought to maintain a high (every time I lose altitude) and looking back with nostalgia and regret that things could have better long-term had they not been distracted (hell of an elevator) by temptation (all ther while my fortune faded.) I feel it's a story of trying to reconcile the cost of instant gratification and glory versus it's cost. The verses speak of being self-defeating (killing the queen and "mating" it, king getting himself assassinated, being famous...for making a mess, overstaying one's welcome, over-medicating, not learning from mistakes.) | |
