Dusty Springfield – Nothing Has Been Proved Lyrics 5 months ago
Some connection to the Profumo scandal, possibly?
The lyrics involving "Mandy" and "Christine", and "Stephen", and presumably the others mentioned, could tie in.

submissions
Graham Parker – You Can't Be Too Strong Lyrics 1 year ago
"it's lucky in a way." Truth right there.
Basically, a song about abortion, but more detailed than that.

submissions
Steve Winwood – While You See A Chance Lyrics 1 year ago
Any good chances in life, make the most of them.
Probably his best song.

submissions
Rickie Lee Jones – A Tree on Allenford Lyrics 2 years ago
Allenford. Perhaps an area in Ellicott City, Maryland?
Looks to be several trees there, looking at photos there, on the internet. Probably one of her better songs.

submissions
Steve Forbert – January 23-30, 1978 Lyrics 2 years ago
Going back home, short stay in Meridian?

submissions
ABC – Ocean Blue Lyrics 2 years ago
For me this is their best song.
Someone in his thoughts that seems impossible to replace.

submissions
Bran Van 3000 – Drinking in L.A. Lyrics 2 years ago
Very unusual song. The Pacific Coliseum is presumably the venue in Vancouver, sometimes apparently used for ice skating.
Venice is a neighbourhood of Los Angeles.
Therefore that would fit with the lyrics.

submissions
Roy Harper – One of Those Days in England Lyrics 2 years ago
Seems sex related, definitely.
"Buying rides on Mother Nature's funny belly dance".
Hmm..
The best song I know of from him anyway.

submissions
Joan Armatrading – The Weakness In Me Lyrics 2 years ago
Great song, but I thought this was from a disappointing record called 'Walk Under Ladders'
Just one of two good songs on the album, the other one being 'No Love'.
Sounds as if she is already in a relationship, but finds someone else attractive.

submissions
Neil Young – Harvest Moon Lyrics 2 years ago
Love song. Perhaps to his wife Pegi.

submissions
The Tubes – Prime Time Lyrics 2 years ago
Prime Time, as in prime of life.
'Fly with me', not sure what is meant from that.
Possible drugs reference?

submissions
Gerry Rafferty – Days Gone Down Lyrics 2 years ago
I think this is his best song.
Seem to remember this was recorded at Chipping Norton studios.
About someone he has enjoyed being with, spending time with.
Seems to be someone he had known for quite a while.
Possibly his wife maybe?

submissions
Simon and Garfunkel – The Boxer Lyrics 2 years ago
Paul Simon a great songwriter.
I especially like the line about the "New York City winters".
They can be quite severe apparently.

submissions
Everything but the Girl – Wrong Lyrics 2 years ago
They are a couple aren't they? Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt. Perhaps now married.
Maybe it is about their own relationship, if she had a relationship with someone else then got back with Ben.

submissions
Rickie Lee Jones – Altar Boy Lyrics 2 years ago
Maybe this is what can happen, in the lives of monks in monasteries.

submissions
Rickie Lee Jones – A Lucky Guy Lyrics 2 years ago
Carefree bloke in a relationship with girl.
Lucky because he can be that way, no emotional scars for him.

submissions
Manfred Mann's Earth Band – Davy's on the Road Again Lyrics 2 years ago
Split with his Mrs, named Jean. Can't settle as a fall out from that. Seems to me as if some guy on a motorbike.

submissions
Steve Forbert – Grand Central Station, March 18, 1977 Lyrics 3 years ago
Apparently, when Steve Forbert moved to New York, from Meridian, he was a street singer/busker. Mid 1970's. Would make this song autobiographical, "might catch a coin" and "all ears may listen". He seemed to be signed up to a record company from the street appearances. Some member of staff seen and listened to him, and they signed him from that.

submissions
Dire Straits – Tunnel Of Love Lyrics 3 years ago
Spanish City was some sort of funfair/amusement arcade. In Whitley Bay in North East England. Probably active in the 1960s and 1970s. Presumably, the times relative to this song.
Possibly somewhat autobiographical to Mark Knopfler.
Nostalgic.
Seems a bit depressing somehow.

submissions
Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers – Insider Lyrics 3 years ago
Someone with a dark personality. I don't dislike her, although I always thought this song would have been better without Stevie Nicks contribution.

submissions
Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers – A One Story Town Lyrics 3 years ago
Wanting to move from a town he lives in. Sounds as if nothing ever improves there, nothing to look forward to.

submissions
The Cure – Primary Lyrics 3 years ago
Growing up. Loss of 'innocence'. As we grow older we sometimes show less emotion. The Primary could perhaps mean moving through primary school and onwards with life.

submissions
Boz Scaggs – Ask Me 'Bout Nothin' But the Blues Lyrics 3 years ago
Someone going through lots of bad times, and hasn't much knowledge of anything else.

submissions
Bob Dylan – Jokerman Lyrics 3 years ago
@[ejg2290:44867] Thank you for reply.
I thought Sly Dunbar was great on drums on that song. Apparently however, Dylan didn't like Sly's interpretation on the recording.
I don't know if I read that or someone told me that.
Definitely either read it or heard it from somewhere however.
A few decent studio musicians on the album.
As well as Sly Dunbar there was Mark Knopfler and Mick Taylor.

submissions
Harry Nilsson – Mr. Richland's Favorite Song Lyrics 3 years ago
Interesting and unusual.
Pop star idol with fans who enjoyed seeing him in concert, presumably.
Who is Mr Richland?
I can't find much mention of that name on the internet.

submissions
Harry Nilsson – All I Think About Is You Lyrics 3 years ago
Melancholic, wistful thoughts of someone.
I thought perhaps his wife Una, the line "she doesn't live here anymore", doesn't seem to tie in with that however.
As far as I know they lived together for years.
Therefore perhaps could be about someone else, not sure.
I think this is the best song he wrote, perfect vocals.
Should have been a big hit record.

submissions
The Cure – This Is a Lie Lyrics 3 years ago
Some true words in these lyrics. I think many people do have just "one special friend", "one true love", and reject or "lose everyone else in the world".
The opening verse about denying "any other way in the world" also seems accurate.
I can closely relate with some of the lyrics in this song.
I bought the album 'Wild Mood Swings' this was from and found it to be disappointing. I thought this was the only decent song on it.

submissions
Perry Como – Christmas Dream Lyrics 5 years ago
Theme tune song for 'The Odessa File'
film. Sets the film off really well.
Plus I think the lyrics give encouragement to improve life.
Perry Como at his best.

submissions
Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel – Mr. Soft Lyrics 5 years ago
@[PrimeMover:33341] You could be right, you know.
The lyrics would tie in to be about David Bowie.
Particularly in the instances you highlighted.
It would be nice if Steve Harley will say who he means with 'Mr Soft'.

submissions
Buzzcocks – Love You More Lyrics 5 years ago
I don't know if the very best, but definitely one of their best songs.
A few to choose from.
Shock at the end of it.

submissions
Michael McDonald – On My Own Lyrics 5 years ago
Split up of couple in love affair, basically.
I think the vocals on this, best ever from Patti Labelle, and she seems to bring out the best from Michael McDonald.

submissions
Bob Marley and the Wailers – Three Little Birds Lyrics 5 years ago
Could be a reference to his three backing vocalists (I Threes).
Apparently there were three canaries that used to visit when he lived at his Hope Road address.
Perhaps they inspired him to write it.

submissions
The Isley Brothers – Summer Breeze Lyrics 5 years ago
Home from work on warm summer evening.
Good food, and a good night by the sounds of it.

submissions
Joe Tex – Ain't Gonna Bump No More (With No Big Fat Woman) Lyrics 5 years ago
Night out at disco. Big woman joins him on the dance floor.
This song seems to be either loved or loathed.
I remember enjoying listening to it on the radio at work, and the manager switched it off.

submissions
Rickie Lee Jones – Night Train Lyrics 5 years ago
Travelling by train somewhere.
I think this is her best song.
Some capable studio musicians on the album track.
e.g Buzzy Feiten, Fred Tackett, Red Callender, Victor Feldman.

submissions
The Chi-Lites – Toby Lyrics 5 years ago
Young love, loss of girlfriend at
young age.
A few good songs from the Chi-lites,
('Have You Seen Her', 'Homely Girl'), but I think this is just about their best.
Eugene vocals suitable for tunes they recorded.

submissions
Paul Simon – Take Me to the Mardi Gras Lyrics 5 years ago
New Orleans festival.
Written when he was probably at the
height of his powers.
Visualising nice weather and everyone chilled out.
I think he should include this in concerts on a regular basis.
Doesn't seem to for some reason.
For me it is one of his best songs.

submissions
Duran Duran – Night Boat Lyrics 5 years ago
Haven't analysed too much.
I do know there's a great OGWT version featuring 'Night Boat' and 'Anyone Out There'.

submissions
The Jam – Saturdays Kids Lyrics 6 years ago
Going out on a Saturday.
I actually think this is their, (The jam), best song.
For me it evokes a thought that the 'kids' described are under 18, somehow.
Despite the fact they are going for a pint.
Driving around in cars they would suppose to be late teens as well, but the rest of the lyrics give me a picture of 14 to 17 year olds.
'Capstan non filters', those were the days eh? I had an uncle who smoked them, distinctive packets.

submissions
Randy Newman – Louisiana 1927 Lyrics 6 years ago
Sorry, I didn't read the lyrics correctly.
It's "with a little fat man" isn't it.
At first I thought he was describing President Coolidge as being fat.

submissions
10,000 Maniacs – Hey Jack Kerouac Lyrics 6 years ago
From the 'In My Tribe' album.
The "Allen" mentioned is Allen Ginsberg, he had a penchant for young men.

submissions
10,000 Maniacs – Stockton Gala Days Lyrics 6 years ago
Sounds to describe a young lesbian type love affair. Perhaps just admiration and love in a more pure sense, maybe not.
Great song title.

submissions
James Taylor – Sweet Baby James Lyrics 6 years ago
I heard that he wrote this about his nephew as well, so probably true.
I find this has a strange lilt to it with an unusual vocal pattern.
Some of the lyrics are good though.
There is a top version of it, recorded at Manchester Arena (UK), not too long back. Most probable his best song.

submissions
The Dickies – Banana Splits (The Tra La La Song) Lyrics 6 years ago
Sure, in connection to the theme from the children's show, 'The Banana Splits', and the antics of Bingo, Snorky, and co.

submissions
The Dickies – Banana Splits (The Tra La La Song) Lyrics 6 years ago
Sure, in connection to the theme from the children's show

submissions
Janis Ian – At Seventeen Lyrics 6 years ago
Well written, so credit to Janis Ian for writing it.
There is an OGWT version of this from 1976, and in my opinion she wasn't at all bad looking during that time.
Despite some of the song lyrics.
I wouldn't have thought she'd have been anyones last choice.

submissions
Peter Gabriel – Solsbury Hill Lyrics 6 years ago
Solsbury Hill is located above the
village of Batheaston, in Somerset.
Peter Gabriel has probably climbed to the top at some point, and it has inspired him to write this song.
"Though my life was in a rut" could express a yearning to have some success, after his departure from Genesis.
I always thought he was at his best between 1973 and 1978, during which time frame Solsbury Hill was released.

submissions
The Rumour – Frozen Years Lyrics 6 years ago
Not easy to evaluate.
Is it about growing up, and the transition from adolescence to adulthood? i.e the 'frozen years'.
When they don't have the experience in relationships, and are still young.

submissions
Pretenders – Talk of the Town Lyrics 6 years ago
Some gossip perhaps.
Reference to someone she wants or did want for a boyfriend.
The Pretenders were a good band when this was released.
Chrissie Hynde, quite unique vocals, and Pete Farndon added more than he is given credit for.
The Pretenders weren't as good after they sacked him. Smackhead or not.

submissions
Randy Newman – Louisiana 1927 Lyrics 6 years ago
I like the way he describes Calvin Coolidge.
He didn't look all that "fat", in the pictures I've seen of him.
Maybe it just fits with the song.
