He reminds me of my relationship with my father with the line.’ Where mister, when you're young They bring you up to do Like your daddy done.’ I grew up in Johnstown. My father was that way. He wanted me to follow him in his job at the local steel mill. I wanted to go to college. We never got past that.
The entire expression throughout speaks of southwest PA culture. (Bruce had ties with Joe Gresheky of Pittsburgh.) …and yes, it’s also Relates to ‘The Deer Hunter’ which was filmed partly in Clairton, PA , a working-class town on the Monongahela River south of Pittsburgh.
The progression is a perfect description of the culture here. We had a major flood in’77. By ’79 we were already seeing the effects. By now, Johnstown has been documented as the 3rd fastest shrinking city in the U.S. I’ve known several couples who went through the stages Bruce describes. Many of them didn’t make it. So true to life here.

I've always liked this song from the 1st time I heard it. I have over 20,000 music files. Most of them classic rock & blues rock. James, however, is a different story. Carly Simon's 'You're So Vain' is about him. They were living together & he dumped her. I have no respect for this kind of man. |
