Yes, they have said that this song is about Go-Karting, but I can't help but feel that there is a deeper meaning in this song. Just look at the title! "Hey Its your funeral mama!"... It doesn't sound like Go-Karting to me. I actually believe there is a double meaning. The first meaning is yes, about enjoying life and having fun (Go-Karting), but the second one is a lot darker. I think it's about a persons mother dying in a car accident they were in, and the person recovering from it and continuing to live and enjoy his life. In the first stanza, he is talking about what he sees whilst he is Go-Karting, but I also interpreted it as him seeing everything when he is being carried on an ambulance stretcher, with his head inside those helmet things they put on people who have just suffered a neck or head injury. In the chorus, the "You drive red and I'll drive black" indicate the color of the Go-Karts, but I believe he is also saying to his mom to drive red (Blood) and he'll drive black (black is a common color for hearses and attire at funerals). Goodyear are a tire brand, and while I believe that they are talking about shredding rubber ( racing and having fun), it could also mean their cars tires are what caused the accident. The line "We don'the fear these machines" indicates that even though this person just lost his mother in an automobile accident, he isn't scared to continue enjoying his life (hence not fearing the Go-Karts). When all is said and done, I believe the ultimate message of the song is overcoming tragedy and continuing on with enjoying your life. The Go-Karts are a metaphor for the persons will to continue living after tragedy. |

I personally think this song is about a Teenager struggling with depression and is aware of his own pettiness and sadness but doesn't know what to do with it. He starts thinking about things in his life and reminiscing about how things used to be when he was innocent and young. |
