I think that, as in One from Metallica, this song is about a person in vegetative state, but from their point of view. For example, in the lines: "Cut off my wings and come lock me up" Could be locked up in a box, like in a coffin. "Just pull the plug yeah, I've had enough" Seems like he is connected to some machines and doesn't want to live anymore. Then, in "You're all vampires so here You can have my heart" Could be saying that because he will be dead, the hospital he is being locked up in can get his organs for donation. "No hint of movement, no sign of pulse" As said, the person is vegetative, so cannot move. "Only an echo, just skin and bone" Literally, it's just skin and bone, there is no life inside. "So come rain on my parade" The parade could be the person's funeral. "Come shove me over the edge" Getting buried, maybe. "I'm sorry but it's too late And it's not worth saving" Maybe this is towards the person's family, telling them not to have hope, because he will never wake up from that state. "You must of made some kind of mistake I asked for death, but instead I'm awake" Again, the person is nearly dead, but still alive. He wants to die, but can't, and it wasn't his choice. "The devil told me no room for cheats I thought I sold my soul, but he kept the receipt" These lines could mean that this person tried to commit suicide, but failed. "So leave the lights on I’m coming home It's getting darker but I carry on The sun won't shine here, it never did And when it rains, it fucking pours But I think I like it And you know that I'm love with the pain I think I like it" These lines could lead to another interpretation. Maybe the whole song is, as stated above, about a person who tried to kill themselves, they don't want to be alive. But perhaps this last stanza means that the person changed their mind and will try to live again. "So leave the lights on I’m coming home" He is going home again, trying to start to live again. "It's getting darker but I carry on The sun won't shine here, it never did" The world he lives in was dark, that's why he tried to kill himself. The world is still as dark and he remembers why he tried to commit suicide, but he will carry on and try to live again. "And you know that I'm love with the pain" Maybe he tried to kill himself by cutting his wrists. So, in my opinion, the song can be about a person in vegetative state, that wants to die. Or it could be about a person who tried to commit suicide and now want another chance to live. Or maybe that second chance is death, so that's why he wants to not be alive. Sorry for my english and for some not-so-well written things, but I wanted to share my view on this song. BMTH has powerful lyrics. :) |
