This song is obviously about SETI (search for extraterrestrial intelligence). Only came outside to watch the night fall with the rain: Radio telescopes used in SETI research do not require a clear sky and can be used in rainy weather. I heard you're making patterns rhyme: Using pattern recognition to identify alien radio transmissions. Like some new romantic looking for the tv sound: Unable to decrypt an alien signal just yet, but... You'll see I'm right some other time: Given enough time, an alien signal will be identified.
