Iron Maiden – 2 Minutes To Midnight Lyrics

@[quiffporn:49399] You obviously didn't grow up during the nuclear arms race, and I'm happy for you. But there was nothing "mythical" about the threat my generation grew up under, especially with war-mongering lunatics like Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher in power. (And on behalf of all of us, from all countries, who fought like hell to stop the insanity, you're welcome.) |

Great song, one of their best, but the one line I've never understood is "Your life is . . . confiscated". What the hell is that even supposed to mean? Anybody got a clue? |

@[jlb1987:46290] I've always thought the "M-A-R-Y -- Gail" thing was weird too, but considering your comment, I'm going with the hypothesis that he's so obsessed with wanting to kill Gail (whether he already has or not) that he's projecting Gail onto Mary, despite the direct evidence (the anklet) that she's not Gail. |

In concerts for the last few years (as far as I can tell), this song consists of Nita Strauss, alone on stage with a black shroud/veil on her head, playing an incredible guitar solo to the tune. |

Other anti-nuclear war metal songs from the same period include "Fire in the Sky" by Saxon, "Two Minutes to Midnight" by Iron Maiden, "Stand and Be Counted" by Krokus, "China White" by the Scorpions, "Electric Funeral" and "Children of the Grave" by Black Sabbath, and I'm sure many others I can't remember at the moment. |

Ozzy Osbourne – Crazy Train Lyrics

Yes, this song is about the nuclear arms race. It was written just as the Cold War was heating up, with Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher in office, and it was reasonable for those of us who were kids at the time to assume we'd be dead before we reached adulthood. "MAYBE it's not too late": there was only the slimmest hope at that time of surviving the politicians' insanity, the crazy train they were forcing us all to ride. "Heirs of the Cold War . . . inherited trouble . . . I just cannot bear . . . living with something that just isn't fair": spot-on description of how it felt to have been born into a desperate situation not of our own making, our lives threatened since birth by sheer stupidity. I'm a way, it's gratifying to me, as an '80s-era anti-nuclear protester, to see so many commenters miss the real meaning of the song, since it tells me they at least didn't have to grow up under THAT particular threat to our collective survival. May this generation carry on the good fight! |

@[turricaned:19527] - Actually, my understanding is that gravity is caused by the local effect of an object's mass on spacetime, and the more massive and/or closer the object, the greater its gravitational effect on other objects, irrespective of the object's motion (rotational or otherwise). Am I mistaken? Thanks. |

@[viper67:12414] I might agree with you about most of these guys, but for the record, Alice Cooper is still a hardcore Christian, who sees his edgier stuff as sort of an ironic advertisement for the straight and narrow. (And it's entirely to Alice's credit that this atheist is still a huge fan.) |
