In reality, this is about a proposed business district that never happened.... "According to Thom Yorke, this is a song about an area in east London called Canary Wharf, which was built on unused wasteland by the docks of the Thames. The area was supposed to be a major business district, but it was hurt by a market downturn in the '90s. Canary Wharf was landscaped with a lot of artificial plants, which is where the title came from." With that in mind, the title at least, seems ot have more purpose than just some random fluff, but I am not truly clear on the participants in the lyrical stories honestly. Still, it does seem that it is about a depressed girl / women, who married a plastic surgeon at some point, and that relationship turned out to be a mistake. As well, it seems that Thom is regretting something about his relationships, either with life / fame, or with a specific romantic dalliance he had. Irregardless, this is an unmistakably beautiful song, that deserves HIGH PRAISE!! |

This is all I could find.... Butler's explanation: "'Alice's House' is an asylum, and it's just a song basically about madness. Where it says, 'in the softest room,' you can take that as a padded cell, and you sing without a key.' Well, I always associate people who are insane as singing way out of tune, plus, you're in a room without a key. 'The butler is serving tea' is just sort of a wild image, and wearing a shirt without any sleeves' is simply a straitjacket. It works on illusions like that." Still, if you NEED to dissect this song, he was really into King Lear at the time, and likely stole a bunch of lines from this.... Unfortunately, he includes everything in an unordered confusing order of statements that also likely has zero meaning!! :P |

Hate to necro an old song, but you are 'ALL BONED'!! The song was MADE to be a joke, and the lyrics mean Zippity Do Da.... Lennon, while writing the song, was growing disheartened by the amount of time being "wasted" on deciphering his lyrics, and wrote a song that had NO meaning on purpose, after which he remarked "T"Let the fuckers work that one out." Sorry to interject reality into this, but it means nothing, on purpose!! |

I think it has a feeling that there is a girl who lives somewhat in her fantasies because real life just ain't cuttin it.... She is probably really HOT, but that does not mean anything to her truly, and she is still not satisfied, despite all that beauty. She is not wholly in love with her guy, but it is what she has, so she takes it. She is also, of course, disillusioned with politics, like that is new. All in all it sounds like she is a pretty woman who is just not happy to me at least!! |
