Bastille – No Angels (TLC) Lyrics 10 years ago
You guys have totally Mis interpreted the word scrub. A scrub is not necessarily poor they are just deadbeats. Yes most of the time deadbeats are poor but it's not the fact that the man is poor that he's being rejected but the fact that he's poor and he's not doing anything thing about it (TLC's No Scrubs). In that context bastille's No Angels is showing it from the guys point of view. The man is probably suffering from his mother pampering him, or a mental illness; hence the phrase, "the one's she allows i might be capable of doing". But then the lyric that says "I was born in mine, I don't mind it anymore" makes me to believe it's a mental illness and it's most likely depression.
Here's why i think it's depression
1. He's talking to a shrink (that deduction os obvious)
2. "Do you go out with friends" "well a boy's best friend is his mother"
3. "We deliberately step into those traps" (normal people believe ypu get over depression/"bad days" by just going out and not letting yourself think). His reply is "i was born in mine and i don't mind it any more".
4. The most important line in this song is "OH I DO, BUT I SAY I DON'T" this is the line thay breaks the facade he's been showing everyone else to avoid questions like are you okay. It's better to be an asshole in this guy's head. It's better to not give a shit. This attitude is also misconstrued by others as arrogance.

But i guess that's just my interpretation/ideas
