I just have to say, if you don't know who Rhett and Link are, look them up. This song is litterally about them. This song to me is about two best friends or brothers (aka Rhett and Link). They carve their names on the clocktower door. It sort of represents a pact. The clock tower is representative of time and eternity so carving their names on it is sort of like a vow to stay together for eternity. (Like rhett and link's blood oath). Big eyed boys means they are innocent and looking towards the future. Salt on our skin makes me think of sweat, but idk... Throwing their kites to the wind is symbolic of their dreams for the future. The kites flying on and on suggests that they are still dreaming get or still have those dreams. As they grow up, their relationship looses it's intimacy because they have to put on personas for the rest of the world. The big light is the people who look in on their relationship (aka rhett and link's viewers). Torch=flashlight. Flashlight suggests sleepovers and ghost stories. Again, their relationship is missing the intimacy it used to have. The line about soap on the skin is relating to the line about salt on the skin. So I assume that they are washing it away? Again, I'm not sure particularly what that means. Dreaming on is the same thing as throwing the kites to the wind. They are circles because they always find their way back to eachother. That also explain the line about going in and out like the sea. When the torchlight thins is when they loose the child within. When the clocktower is gone means when the "pact" is over and they loose their connection. When the big light dims is talking about when people stop looking in on their relationship. (For rhett and link that would be when the loose viewership.) they will have grown up completely and have wrinkles. They throw their dust to the wind is talking about spending ashes. It means they will die. But I think they song means to say that they will be a part of eachother forever and that they will stay together to their death. |
