I'm not sure if this is totally correct ....but. I think the narrator is very conflicted because he wants to solve his problems [I wanna slay my demons,But I got lots of them, I got lots of them.] The narrator also has this jerykll and hyde thing going on hinting that his father can be like too different people. His father is the bad man and his dad is the good guy. The narrator is trying to be the good guy a.k.a his dad but the bad man keeps surfacing a.k.a his father [I don't wanna be a proud man just wanna be a man. A little less like my father and more like my dad.] Which makes sense because many people fear turning into their parents. [I keep kicking at the curb with my worn out shoes and I keep running into stranger's that say I know you] The Narrator doesn't want to go home and keeps running into people that know his father either hurts him or does other bad things or it could be the narrator's appearance is very similar to his father and the people are just mistaking him for his father. I wanna hunt like David,I wanna kill me a giant man,} This part I don't quite understand because it could mean that the narrator wants to kill his father or to kill people like his father or to face his fears like in the story from the bible David and Goliath. Goliath is a very strong and mean person that is taken down by little David with a slingshot. I try to keep my conscience clean.I try to keep myself out of your bad dreams.I try to wash my hands for you every night,oh, lest you find my strangling fingers wrapped around tight.] The narrator has been having thoughts of doing something bad or has done something bad and worries he will hurt the ones he loves, washing his hands is trying to remove the guilt or blood of the thoughts or actions. Basically the song could form a number of different scenarios |
