All Time Low – Missing You Lyrics 10 years ago
OKEY DOKEY LET'S GET TO IT.

So, I think this song is written from the perspective of someone who has a depressed friend, and the song is directed to the friend. With that in mind, let's get started on analyzing.

"I heard that you've been,
self-medicating in the quiet of your room,"

Fairly straightforward. This could be referencing anti-depressants or other drugs which people suffering from depression are known to turn to as a form of escapism.

"your sweet, suburban tomb,"

They never leave the house, so their room has become like a tomb for them.

"but if you need a friend,
I'll help you stitch up your wounds,"

An offer of friendship towards the depressed person.

"I heard that you've been,
having some trouble finding your place in the world,
I know how much that hurts,"

Depression can cause feelings that your life is meaningless, and you 'don't have a place in the world'. The narrator has also known that feeling and can relate.

"and if you need a friend,
then please just say the word…"

If they need someone to help them through the tough times, they're always on call.

"You've come this far,
you're all cleaned up,
you made a mess again,
there's no more trying,
time to sort yourself out…."

You've been through your share of hardships in the past, this is just another mess you need to sort out, so get to it.

"Hold on tight,
this ride is a wild one,"

Another straightforward line; life is the wildest ride of all.

"make no mistake,
the day will come when you can't cover up what you've done,"

This could be referencing two things, maybe even both. The first is that the person is hiding that they have a problem, but people will find out eventually, or possibly that they self harm, and they can't cover up the marks forever.

"Now don't lose your fight, kid,
it only takes a little push to pull on through,"

Don't lose hope now, it seems tough but if you keep at it you'll pull through.

"With so much left to do;
You'll be missing out, and we'll be missing you,"

There's so much left in life for you to experience, so if you do lose hope (ie. suicide), you'll be missing out, and your friends and family will miss you.

Verse, Prechorus and Chorus are all the same so the meanings remain the same.

"Grit your teeth, and pull your hair,
paint the walls black and scream, "Fuck the world,
'cause it's my life, I'm gonna take it back,"
and never for a second blame yourself,"

Don't bottle up your feelings, let them out and tell yourself you're going to get through. Depression is an insidious thing that should never be blamed on the person suffering it by others, but what is worse is when the sufferer blames themselves.

The final chorus is the same. Which means this is the end of my interpretation. Thank you for listening.
